Variax 300 cuts out

I bought a Variax 300 used a few months ago and have been enjoying it, but recently, the signal has been cutting out. Sometimes it drops out altogether, other times, the volume slowly drops, distorts, then cuts out.
I've tried two different TRS cables, both of them less than 20' and that doesn't seem to make a difference. If I pull the cable out of the guitar and replace, sometimes the signal will come back...other times no signal...anyone had a similar problem?
These symptoms bring to mind a well-known issue in some Variax 300 guitars. It appears there can be an electrical problem with internal grounding of the main circuit board. This can sometimes be resolved by coating the internal 'coffin' with electrical shielding.

Thanks very much Silverhead. I've simply removed the metal coffin as the circuits seem secure in their attachment to the scratchplate. I've also sprayed all the circuits and inputs with contact cleaner spray and removed the grounding wire that attached to the wooden frame. So far, so good. The guitar was playing well last night. Tonight, I'll have it up and running for a longer period of time to see if my actions have been correct.
Sounds promising - hope it holds. Please let us know if you've fixed it by these actions - could help future readers of this thread.
