Could I run a DT 25 head through two 2x12 Mesa boogie cabs???

120w 8 Ohm cabs... Best I've ever heard (I've owned one).

So rather than get a quaddie that'll never go in my car I want two of these....

according to the specs the DT25 will do 4 ohms, so you should be golden.

  I don't quite understand ohmage but assume I'm good to go in this aspect.
  My main query is wether the speakers will 'reverse' cope given their high wattage.
  Would a 25 watt amp push 120W speakers enough to justify getting them - or is it only important to NOT have an amp rated higher than the speaker.....

    And would 2 2x12's sound different to 1 4 x12 can? I mean - how longs a piece of string.
    Apart from looking insanely cool (I've owned one of these cabs before and love them) I'm looking at ease of transport.
    Or for three times the price of a line 6 DT 50 cab am I compromising tone etc.....

    speakers are NOT like light bulbs...speakers only process the power applied and the rated power of a speaker is just a capacity...
    
    So if you have two of those cabinets, then each speaker would see about 6 watts at the most...1/10th the rated power...For me, Mesa cab is a little pricey, but not a bad investment if you plan on keeping them to use with other amps you might get in the future...

      Ok. Sorry to harp but I'm still a little unclear so I'll ask another way....
      
      One of the reasons (I understand) that power soakers don't entirely work are because, whilst the tubes ARE cranked, at lower volumes the soakers aren't 'moving'
      I know its a different topic - but that's what I mean I guess. Would the DT 25 - which is actually pretty loud, 'thump' the speakers enough to get a decent sound. When I mean thump - I mean across the board. Or am I buying a Ferrari and putting a Hyundai engine in....

        underpowered for certain...but that isn't always a bad thing...just depends on if YOU like the sound and the DT25 is enough power for you in your situations...you gotta decide this one yourself...But I will tell what I think based on my own gear...
        
        I have run my DT25 head into several different 412s and I also have two 212 cabs that are 8 ohms (rated 320 watts each)...DT25 is ok...it can thump a little...
        
        DT50 is better at pushing a load like that...Live I use a DT50 and DT25...It's not what I would call a loud rig either...just about perfect power for a decently hard hitting drummer with an acoustic kit...no soak needed IMHO...I would use a DT50 head to power those given a choice...For me, I always push the DT25 hard at rehearsals...Never gigged the DT25 alone...Not enough power IMHO...

        Yeah - ok..... We're not gigging yet so its interesting about the dt50 option for down the track.
        
        One last one - would 2 x 2/12 cabs have as much thump as a single 4/12?

        Too subjective....Well, too many variables....I am sure two of those rectum cabs would likely thump better than a lot of 412s....better than a Mesa rectum 412? never compared...My guess from my own 212s and 412s I have played is that my sealed 212s have a very tight thump...tighter than most all 412s I have tried...Personally, I really like the modularity of it....I take one cab to practice...use two at shows...I like the flexibility...
