Need a midi cable?

I have the M13 and am not all that great with it. I want to start using more and would like to get the version on the unit.   I beleive I still have basic version 1.0 and would like to upgrade.  I understand I need a USB to midi cable but I really do not want to spend $40-50 for a cable that I will only be using one time or very seldom.  Can someone please help me by suggesting a work around please.  Thank you in advance.

    no workaround... you need a midi interface of some sort... the m-audio uno is the most compatible...

    but the 5$ ebay deal works for some people as well... worth a try if moneys tight.
