Dear almighty powers, please let us load our own IRs! (Demo clip attached - Metal)

This is mostly me ranting, but it'd be nice to hear if there's even a small prospect of us eventually being able to load IRs. Tonight was the first night I've tried RedWirez, and let me just say, I found what I disliked about the Pod in comparison to the Axe. Everybody's right, the modeling is great, but the IRs could stand to be swapped. To me, these are what make the Pod sound more 'digital'. So, I took my favorite rhythm patch (7 stringer), made zero tweaks, and put it up against the third party to compare. What took me ages to get a good DI tone using the Pod, took me hardly no time using these; not to mention the DSP savings by only needing to run a single amp.
Anyway, since I whined, here's a clip to keep me on the "good side" of the board. It's just a clip of a demo with bare bones production.
Maybe to really show the difference between the two, you should do two different recording, one with te POD IRs and the other with the Redwirez ones. I can't hear night and day difference for the moment...
With this one I was trying to best match sounds without changing amp parameters (and again, that tone took me a while to get to my pleasing, the third party was shockingly easy). I mostly put the clip up because of an older post. Not long ago when everyone was whining about the release of the Soldano models, someone said if you're going to b*tch, put up a clip of your playing. I kept with the theme so I wouldn't be tagged as a whiny b*tch, haha.
I'll most likely record another clip showcasing the difference within a few days using identical amp/cab/mic combos.
i agree - the dsp benefit is the biggest concern at this point for me. if nothing else, maybe line 6 could split up the amp and cab blocks so we can run 1 amp into 2 cabs.
and yes, tweaking takes longer, especially when you're trying to use dual amp/cabs to compensate. Not only do you have to spend more time proportioning the amp EQ's then post-EQ'ing, but you have to resort to adding neutral EQ's or other effects to sync the cabs up, so you don't get comb filtering and out-of-phase frequencies. and there's cab DEP treatment in addition.
here's a quick tip if you do want to keep using dual cabs - set E.R. on the darker one to ~15%. Set the bright cab to 0%. This gives a more natural tone. but again, this adds even more complexity and tweaking time...
you should definitely divide the clip up so you can hear both tones distinctly, in and out of a mix.
Couldn't agree more on that...being able to load external IRs would dramatically improve the overall quality of this already amazing tool.
Splitting amps and cabs would be nice too, along with a better phase correction (like Redwirez IRs for example) so we could mix both without being forced to add EQs or other neutral fx for that purpose.
Hope they'll listen, especially regarding IRs...in my opinion this upgrade would take the POD to a whole new level.
Great Idea. I am busy doing some acoustic patches for my teliax transplant in Gear box and have been experimenting with the eq settings in the Eq pedal it would be so much easier to have a convolution plugin there, looks like I'll have to twiddle away and finesse my patches by ear on the POD XT live for the time being?
Like too many companies who listen to accountants to cut costs Line 6 is probably undermanned to save money, which equals little or no follow up service.
It is a common business malpractice and in all fairness you cannot sell a product line affordably and maintain a fan club/support service without adequately trained staff.
The staff they got are probably mainly sales staff and are furiously selling the newer product lines.
Line 6 has a plethora of Products and Execs and Staff would be dispersed handling day to day emergencies.
They may have other products that require much more urgent bug fixes than the HD's
It is a common enough business malpractice and is considered normal to cut staff; a misguided belief of cutting costs.
Adequately trained staff are an asset!
And now you know why busisnesses come and go at an alarming rate.
Ask any Business Management University major.
They are taught the last thing to do is to go into business themselves.
Nothing against Accountants though, they are part of the Tax Industry but they are not Administrators or
Salesman and have no business pretending to be.
This no charge consultancy is offered in appreciation of my HD500 for what it is and for what it could be with a few tweaks.
Just to fuel this fire I figure I'd point out that kemper just added this feature to their unit. I'm still waiting to see if line 6 updates % to HZ on EQs. Think this is my last line 6 product if we don't see some simple, smart tweaks to this product line
Line 6' R&D and Support are a bunch of purists.
Obviously , when was the last time you saw a post from someone actually from Line 6 here.
Not even an acknowledgement on some of the issues raised in "What every HD500 owner needs to know".
They do not use their own poroduct. Obviously!
Probably playing thru all those amps they modeled or have KPAs themselves. LOL LOL
What makes you think they play guitar?
...ok that might be a low blow. It'd be nice to understand wtf is happening inside this company
LOL LOL The top echelon in the company, probably not. Maybe even middle management there are too many who don't and I bet their Accountants don't for sure.
But in all fairness you don't have to use the product to administrate, it helps to know the product but administration is its own Art and Science.
So too with sales-ship! It helps to know the product but not essential to be able to use it to apply Art and Science of selling.
no conspiracy theory.... they simply don't do support via the forums... if you are using the forums... its to interact with other users... if you want to interact with line6 go here: http://line6.com/company/contact/
Okay,
Alright Good to know!
There is no need to get upset then
