Flextone III Plus - 100 or 150 Watts - Which one do I have?

Hey guys,

 

I just bought a used Flex III Plus which seems pretty new but is there any way to tell (revision index, serial number?) if I have the 100 or 150 watt version?

There's no direct indication of the amps wattage on the back panel but I know you guys are smart.

    If you have the Plus it is 75 watts per side stereo for a total of 150 watts. But that also dependents on which literature you read. Some say it is 60 watts per side for a total of 120 watts and there have been tests run by some of the forum users verifying the FlexIII+ and XL are 120 watts. You can tell you have a plus by looking at the back of the amp. There should be effects send and returns for both left and right channels and speaker outputs for left and right channels. The plus and XL are the same amp but the plus is installed in a 1x12 cab while the xl is installed in a 2x12 cab.

      thx for your reply. Maybe my initial post was a bit confusing (not a native speaker ). I definitely have the Flex III Plus. AFAIK, there has been a power amp upgrade for the whole Flextone line back in 200x. Line 6 didn't change the amp's cosmetics so there is no obvious (at least not for me) way to tell what power amp is working inside. I think the old Flextone III Plus series had 60/100 watts and the updated one has 75/150. I consider the new power amp a significant upgrade so I'd really like to know if there's a way to tell them apart.

    Hi,

     

    Are you maybe comparing a Flextone III Plus to a Flextone II Plus? Those have similar specs in terms of the difference you describe, but per our documentation / older employees there was no design change to the Flextone III Plus...so as long as you have a III plus, then you have the 75/150.

      Hey, straight from the horse's mouth. I was refering to the III (3) series only as the Flextone II series wouldn't be too hard to tell apart from the III series.

      I'd swear I can remember reading something about a Flex III power amp update (along with the software 1.1 update) back in 2005 when I was shopping for an amp and browsing the L6 page. I just quickly searched the web and found this old announcement from 2003:

      Many retailers (especially here in Germany) still seem to spec the Flextone III series with 60/100 watts.

      Moreover, the official manual specs the Flextone III Plus as a 100 watt amp (page 17).

      I would suspect retailers ond blogs to be capable of a lot of confusion but I can't imagine Line 6 accidentally writing the Flex II specs into the Flex III manual as the new power amp would be too much of an upgrade to be overlooked.

      I hope I'm not to persistent and make some sense.

       

      One more thing: Is there a way to determine the amp's build date with the help of the serial number?
