VettaVille counting down again..

Hey folks, looks like Vettaville has started its countdown again. Any ideas what it might be this time? They've already launced the spider iv & spider valve ii so do we think it could be something variax or vetta related? I heard mention of a new stomp box (m13?), could that be it?
Cheers.
Feel free to have another look
Please note: This info has been unconfirmed and subject to change without notice* Its seems that in the M9 Stompbox modeler lots of enhancements (when compared to the current M13 stompbox modeler) are being implemeneted. underneath we try to give you the lowdown on what's in* there.. There will be more effects in there as in the current V.104 software version of M13 Particle Verb will be in there, a modulated reverb ala Octo verb. A clean octaver inspired by the EBS octaver is added Added are different EQ (4 or 5 different ones) Intelligent pitchshifting alike in Spider IV and Spider Valve MkII Pitchglide alike the Spider IV and Spider Valve MkII series Different wah's alike the POD X3 models Dimensions 10.5" x 6.5". It can not do 4 cable method, no FX loop. however M13 can.. Volume boost in the Chorus is fixed when using it with the mix at 50%. The M9 will be Monkey update-able with a USB to Midi cable Improved Flangers and Phasers Well, there are couple new versions of the flangers based the MXR Flanger and ADA Flanger. The Analog Flanger and Jet Flanger are left alone. Some guys love them as is. There are new versions added called the AC Flanger and the 80A Flanger. Phaser has been redone because it didn't quite do that VH thing. So added a "model" called Script Phaser. It has one parameter, SPEED, so it can't be put into a crazy place. Basically the LFO opens up a bit higher than the Phaser currently in M13. M13 is updatable as you all know, after the update for the M13, the M9 and M13 will be all the same, just different form factors for different jobs. M13 IS your pedalboard, and M9 goes ON your pedalboard... Sweet

This looks really, really amazing, except for one major shortcoming -- no loop means you either run all the fx before your amp or all of them in the loop. But typically OD/Distortion stomps are useless in an effects loop, so it looks like you'll only be able to actually use the preamp stomps or the mods/delays/verbs. Seems a shame when this really looks like an all in one solution.
I wonder if L6 is going to release a similar product that's *only* their amp modeling? That would be pretty slick, IMHO, b/c you could presumably get all the goodness of L6's strongest component -- their amp modeling -- and pick and choose whatever outboard gear you might want.
Just my $0.02, of course.
Cheers,
Fester2k
The AM4 modeler was just this however, it didn't get teh warm reception we thought it would.

I think line 6's modeling has gone up some notches since then..
See what some people are doing with a liverpool pedal, maybe you can add a Tonecore module like that..? Just a thought
Hope your doing good yourself Mr. Miller

I agree, no loop is a big minus. I don't inderstand when you mix stomp type distortions with delay type stuff you need a loop. It's pretty much a given in this day and age. Personally I don't care about the distortion stomps, I care more about the auto wah stuff. How do they sound in the loop of the SV, because that's where I'd put the M9. Sounds interesting though, might have to try one out.

I'm with you -- even with this shortcoming, I'd still consider it (depending on the price) because I'd ignore the stomps and just use the mods/verbs/looper/delays/pitch shifter.
I guess if they're going to go this route, it'd be nice to have an "M7" with nothing but fx that typically go post amp.
Cheers,
Fester2k
As I'm sure you've seen "M13 IS your pedalboard, and M9 goes ON your pedalboard", so it's a different kinda user.
Since I've used the pitch and harmony stuff on Spider IV I'd say it's a whole bunch of pedalstuff in a small package.
Hans, your giving me hope. How well does the IH and pitchshift track?
$399 price tag, that kinda sucks. Should have the effects loop for that price.
Does it have a noise gate and a compressor?
sofnwhat wrote:

Yes, it has a noise gate that is global per scene. Yes, it has a few compressors. My favs are the Tube Comp and I love the Boost Comp using it as a drive.
NG and compression Cool, thanks

Yeah, no way I'm doing this. No loop (forgiveable) but only 3 fx at once? So a delay, a verb and one other effect? What if you're using the looper or the IH, does that count as 1 each?
First impression: meh. I'd just go with the M13 for the extra $100 -- you get 4 effects at once and a loop that actually works. Easy decision, were I contemplating a purchase.
Not that this is the worst outcome for Line6, but isn't the point to be selling additional units to folks who don't want to shell out $500 for the M13? In my mind, $400 and $500 are nearly the same for a major musical purchase. If I were looking at guitars, for example, I wouldn't pass up a guitar I loved for $500 b/c there was a $400 I was just ok with.
Again, just my $.02. L6 is a lot smarter (and, more importantly, richer) than I am.
Cheers,
Fester2k

The looper is separate and can be running while you are using your M9 in its full capacity. The IH is an effect.
You are accidentally spelling out our exact reasoning. M13 is hugely popular and guys expressed wishes for a smaller one. One that could go where their DL4 is now on their boards. So when a guy goes in to look at one of the M-series his decision is do I need one to go ON my pedalboard or IS it my pedalboard.
speaking of the Intelligent Harmonizer--i was dinking around with the IH on the Spider IV and, in my opinion, it's the real deal--very nice job on this effect! I didn't have time to dive into parameters or anything--just used the Play in A Minor preset. it tracks like it ain't even tracking--seemed crazy good to me. i've tried many multi-effect harmonizers (never any high-dollar dedicated units) and this one is the best so far. not a full evaluation or anything serious just turned it on and started playing but i know what i'm doing with harmonizers and i had a feeling about what to expect--this one you just forget it and play.
as for the rest of the M9--looks like a winner to me. how do you think this would pair up with a Spider? i haven't been wild about real effects (other than an essentially clean boost) in front of modelers but i'm willing to be open minded. a discounted spider iii with an m9 might be a dangerous combination.

One of the improvements on the Spider III that of course went into the Spider IV as well is the ability to hit it with dirt boxes and effects and have it react correctly. M9 into Spider is deadly. See my post above about Oz Noy.
Yeah the more I think about it the more I'm liking it. Might be just what I need. I been searching for something for effects with my modded HD100 and I'm not really planning on getting a MKII. The M13's are big and bulky and run $499. The M9 is slim and trim, and may not have a bad price all things considered. I'll still have to try it out though, especially my IH that L6 put together just for me.
LOL!! BIG +1 bro! I am so getting the M9! If I want verb, I'll program it from the SV, maybe even the delay. I'm just gonna run it into the loop and only use the mods, no distortions. It has 4 EQ'S!! The major jackpot is the IH! The Eventide and Digitech go for $400-$500 and that's all it does. This has that and more. I have been waiting for this for a while, thanks Line 6! The M13 is just too huge for me, I'm all about real estate in my pedalboard dawg. ![]()

You don't need a loop for distortion and delay type stuff in all situations. It is not a given in this day and age. Running FX in an amps FX loop or running everything out in front of the amp are both used very commonly. I just saw Oz Noy play tonight with his M13 and a bunch of single stomps from various all running into the front of his amp. BTW if you guys haven't check this guy out, do so here http://www.myspace.com/oznoy.
If you want to have the all in one solution and run it 4 cable method, you should go for the M13.
Understand what you are saying. In the dark days there weren't even effect loops in the amp, and we had to walk to school in 3 feet of snow, uphill both ways.
It's just when I see that it could really be an all in one deal except for one oversight. An effects loop would have made the M9 more flexible for any given situation. I like to have options available to me, even if I don't neccesary utilize them. For example I reallied for MIDI on the X3L, I never have any use for the MIDI ports on any of the gear that I've ever owned. You never know when your situation or gear will change and how that change will affect the way you use your current gear. I really wish my HD100 had MIDI ports, though. I'm definitely trying to watch my floor space, like cgtrox, so the M9 is more appealing then the M13. I do see Uncle Fester's point for $100 more just get the M13, but for some reason I haven't rerally wanted any part of the M13. I like I said the M9 sounds very interesting, I'm going to have to try it out and see whats what 1st.

Yeah, on reflection my primary beef with the M9 is the price. I think it's too high by at least $50, maybe $100. I can forgive the lack of a loop, but to me you're getting about 50% of the M13's functionality for 80% of the price.
Here's how I look it it: the M13 has a loop, so you can use all of its available effects wherever you want them, and you can use up to 4 fx at a time. The M9 has no loop, so once you've chosen to put it in front of or after your amp, you've effectively wiped out some degree of its available features. I think most folks will put it in their fx loops, so the wahs, OD and FX stomps are gone.
But here's the bigger nit I pick with the M9's function: by only allowing a maximum of 3 fx at a time, you're really changing the beast. Most players are running some verb and delay all the time, right? So while an M13 gives you two additional slots to use, the M9 gives you just one. Using the IH? Congrats, you just maxed out the M9's capacity.
I think the problem for L6 is that their top of the line dedicated fx units (eg DL-4) are $250, so if the M9 comes too close to that, they won't sell any of the DL-4s. I still think $350 and these things fly off the shelves w/o cannibalizing DL-4 or M13 sales.
Man, you guys really rattled Renkens cage! LOL!!

Yeah, looks like we hit a nerve -- certainly didn't mean to. It should be rather obvious I have all the respect in the world for L6, but I just don't really get the price structure of the M9 in light of L6's other offerings and what you get for your money.
All of this should of course be understood for what it is. I'm up here in the peanut gallery, and L6 knows a lot more than me about what to build and how to price it. I'm just sharing my views.

Hey Fester2k,
You did not hit a nerve at all. Your points are understood. I get what you are saying from your point of view for you.
I, in fact, only have one rebuttal to your post above.
Most guys won't be putting M9 in their FX loop.
The funny thing is, you describe what you want from M9 and from everything you are saying here, you are the M13 customer so why not go get an M13 and start ROCKIN!! ![]()
Peace,

Yeah man, it's looking like the missing link for us current SV user's that aren't upgrading to the MK2. What I really like is the vareity of effects over what's in the Spider IV or MK2. Like you cgtrox, I can make certain effects in the SV already work and use the M9 can fill in the gaps. We were talking about this in another thread a while back. It seems a bit pricey, but it seems to be the answer I've been looking for. I've been looking at Digitech 2120 and lately I've had in my head that I was going to get a GSP1101. I'd need a MIDI pedal to control it, fine use the X3L as a MIDI board. That along with my shortboard and other outboard pedals is too much. I think the M9 will to the job nicely and neatly.
While I haven't played the SV MkII yet, I have played the SV4, I'm assuming that the improvements made on both modeling feel and tone and more deep control and more fx will be on the same level as SV4.
That together with the M9 via MIDI will give you big bunch of tonal landscape varieties...
The tracking of the IH and Pitchshifter is fast and good!
BTW So far I've trieds to sum up 'the story so far on M9, you can find that here

I have to confess I never really contemplated an M13...until now -- wow, looks amazing. If it's got a decent chorus, I'm likely going to get one of these puppies!
Cheers,

I read the manuals for both the M9 and the M13, I'm begining to see that you are right. The M13 is more geared for me. It may be well worth the extra space it'll tie up.
Yeah, the missing link describes it perfectly! It will fill in the gaps we are missing with the MK1. Like I said, we can use the reverb and delay off the amp. If we need a little more sophisticated delay, go with the M9. As far as price goes, I paid $190.00 for a very nice chorus pedal and it only did that. I plan on having just my FBV shortboard and an M9 on the floor. Does the M9 connect to the shortboard in any way? That would be awesome!
cgtrox ![]()
That would be awesome, but it's very doubtful.
It's already here! It does have MIDI and stereo ins and outs!

You have to watch floor space? Do you live in a small apt? ![]()
Totally kidding.
I do know what you are saying and understand.
When I had to deside what this customer would need most and had to pick between FX loop and Midi and 2 expression pedals because of cost and space on back panel, I hit up my M13 buddies and Midi and both expression pedal jacks won.
Did you know that Spider Valve HD100 MkII has midi?
No, I live in a big house, but the stages I usually play on are small. I figured it came down to something like that. Definetly the 2 expression pedals out are good. For me, I probably won't have a use for the Midi outs, so the FX Loop would have made it more flexible for me. Even though I have yet to use Midi anything, I so realize that it's important for alot of folks too. If you put the FX Loop in and left the Midi, you wouldn't be hearing from me. You'd be hearing it from some other idiot about no Midi.
I do know the SVMK2 has Midi as well as several more +'s over current SV's , but at this point I don't plan on getting one. I got my SV HD100 "the Hulk" sounding great. I was already a great amp, but I've modded it a bit to make it even better.
Why do you think in front of the amp is where the M9's will most likely sit?
I plan on using mine in the loop, but I will try it in front.
cgtrox ![]()
Yeah, the loop is where I'd put it, but common sense says to try it both ways. What I'm going to be looking for most is wether not it sucks the tone from my amp like the X3L did or not. Sounds like I don't have to worry about the IH tracking, that was my other concern.
Man, way back when......
We put every pedal in front of the amp - distortions, delays, flangers, phasers, chorus, wah, auto wah, you name it. That's just the way we did it. The old amps most of us used didn't have effects loops, so everything went in front.
It was important to get the order of the effects right because pushing a modulation through a distortion just really didn't work - unless that's the sound you wanted.
Cheers,
Crusty

see, Santa knew what he was doing giving the "bad" kids lumps of coal for Christmas. he knew they'd be using them to fire up the destruction. Santa was an outlaw at heart--just ask the Burger Meister Meister Burger. ANARCHY!! ![]()
I have done that and it sucks. I use to put my Chorus Ensamble pedal in front of my amp. Clean sounded great, kick on Distortion channel---yuck. I be using it for some modulation stuff, the IH, EQ, NG, compression, and auto wah filter stuff.
I agree.... the M13 using the 4 cable method is awesome!!!!!

It is not an all in one solution. The M9 goes ON your pedalboard. If you want the all in one solution go with the M13. M13 IS your pedalboard.

Hmmm.... I put the M13 on my pedalboard![]()
The M9 does look cool, although I think now that I'm used to the M13, it seems like it would be hard not having a dedicated LCD for each effect module. I was also wondering does the M9 still have a latch mode and momentary mode, and does it allow you to name scenes? Having six presets with immediate access available to you in a pedal with such a small footprint is actually pretty cool. I could almost imagine somebody having two of them on their pedalboard - one in the loop and one before the amp.
All this sounds great, but.....where is our X3 update? Us X3 users are drooling for the IH. I've been screaming for that for a few years now, too.

Hmmm, is that IH going to be available for the PODxt series???? ![]()
