SD Cards crash my Spider Jam

Hi guys,

Had my Jam for a year now, and for the first time this evening I had to save a recording to an SD card. Unfortunately, every time the Jam tries to access the SD card, the amp 'pops' and resets.

Has anyone else had this problem, and how did you get round it ?

Thanks for any help.

    Is your SD card full?

If not, try a factory reset of the Spider Jam.

Q: How do I perform a factory reset on my Spider Jam?

A: The factory reset for a Spider Jam is to hold down the settings/tone button as you turn on the power and hold the button for 5-8 seconds.

    Hello,

What kind of SDCARD are you using? Is it over 2GB? The Jam will only recognize 1 and 2 GB cards.

      HI,

I got the same sort of problem: did all of the upgrade steps; up and until step 7 of your document; saying: Verify the update was succesful by previewing a few songs and drums. That went all ok but suddenly the message came: clipping: the red light went on and the amp is not working since that at all. So tried to do the factory reset (pressing setting/tone togther with the on switch but still the same Line logo and Spider jam logo are revolving; nothing is working! The only thing that comes to the scree (after pushing the knob Guitar; MCU Version 1.05) What should I try next? The 2 gig SD card had been formatted a number of times now; with the fw.bin document newly placed on it several times; and still I am getting the same result as stated above.... many thanks in advance!

      Cheers Marcel

Re: SD Cards crash my Spider Jam

I have one SD card that crashes my SJ.  That's one out of 10 or so.  It started a week ago and it would crash on one jam track that I deleted but the SJ said was still on the card.  Same thing-- a pop then re-boot.  I filled up the card with tracks and now when I plug it into the jam it just immediately pops and reboots and it wont show any of the tracks I've put on there.  I've had the amp for over a year and it's been great.  My other SD cards work fine (so far) except for one particular card.  All of the cards are the same--Sandisk 2 GB.  I just wonder if it is a defective card or is this problem going to get worse?  And this particular card that crashes my SJ was working fine with playing along and loading/deleting backing tracks for about 2 months until this past week when it has popped and re-booted 4 times and now I will not put it back in because I don't like that sound.  And again, I've checked my other 10 or so full SD cards and they seem to work just fine.  I just hope it's an isolated incident and not something going wrong.

I am having the same problem, and nothing seems to work.  I've read mulitple posts and I have tried multiple SD Cards, but when I try to format it in the Spider Jam, it pops and reboots.

I've tried formatting the SD Card (FAT) on my laptop.

I've tried Polaroid, Hana, and Kodak 1GB and 2GB Cards.

I've tried formatting the SD Cards in the Spider Jam multiple times with no luck.

    My firmware version is 2.09.

I have reset back to Factory Defaults, but that didn't help the SD problem.

This is really beginning to bug me, if anyone has some other advise, I'd appreciate it greatly!

    **Update

I have now tried a SanDisk 2GB card, with the same results, my Amp still reboots itself.

I have also tried formatting the card with the SD Formatter, to no avail.

I have also tried reinstalling Firmware 2.09, which also did not work because Attempt1)it did not recognize the SD card inserted , Attempt2) It reboot itself trying to access the card.

I believe I have a bad card reader in my Amp...funny, I put an SD card in there and it says one is inserted...Due to this I will never buy from Line 6 again...I hate that because I love my Amp...BUT my Amp should be fully operational, and it is not....not too mention I could find nowhere where I could just CALL for tech support.  Line 6 now has at least one very unhappy customer.

Yes, I've read all the info on that page, and it was very helpful...but I'm still having the reboot problem.  I'm not one to post a request for help, unless I have exhausted all means currently available to me!!!lol  I'm almost ready to open the Amp up myself and try to install another SD Card reader...but I don't really want to go messing around with my Amp, because I love it so much and this SD card issue is a relatively minor one...I'm just one that wants my stuff to work as designed, ya know?!

Re: SD Cards crash my Spider Jam

I don't mean to be rude, but this is getting frustrating...if you read my earlier posts...just a few replies up...you will see that, yes, I did format the SD Card as FAT/FAT16 not FAT32, and that I used both the Windows format utility, as well as the utility provided by the SD Association.  I've tried both formatting with both utilities using both my laptops internal SD Slot, as well as an external card reader/writer.  Yes, I am using WinXP, and yes, I've tried multiple times to format, with multiple SD cards...all 2GB and 1GB from Kodak, Polaroid, Hana, and SanDisk...in the JAM, and get nothing but a reboot out of it.  I'm not the type of guy who just sees and tries one thing he sees on the web...I've been all over these posts and on the web, and nothing has resolved my issue...so before someone else refers me to THIS post or to Joe's Jam Blog (which is an awesome site, btw), or asks if I used FAT16 or a 1-2GB card like I'm some sort of 4yr old who can't read the posts above mine, we should keep those comments off of this post because it's redundant...if someone has some NEW ideas or things to try, I'm all ears.  Like I said, I don't mean to sound rude, I would just like for my JAM to work like everyone else's seems to be, unfortunately, at this point I am suspecting that I am SOL.  Thanks.

If you have explored all the usual culprits and solutions, then all that is left is a hardware fault. If your SJ is still under warranty, it will be fixed at no cost (except for delivery). You can find details of your nearest service center under the :: Support menu above.

Re: SD Cards crash my Spider Jam

Thanks, that's what I was thinking too, just wanted a second opinion.  I found my receipt and I have about 20 days before my 1-yr Warranty is up, and there is a Service Center about 60mi away in Austin, looks like I'll contact them and see what they can do.  Appreciate the help!

Btw, just for sh!ts and giggles, I tried again this morning, and guess what?  I could format my SanDisk card in the JAM, but when I went to transfer to the card, the JAM rebooted, and I am back to square one...so in about 50 attempts, it was able to be formatted in the JAM once!!!  Gotta love those odds!!!

Re: SD Cards crash my Spider Jam

Have the same problem - had SJ about 1.5 years - Any SD card function reboots amp, reformatted sd card, bought new card same brand as previous, same problem - the sd card I was using worked fine for 1 1/2 years.

There seems to be so many post about this problem and a lot of SJ owners trying to solve it with not much help from the Manuf.
