JM4 EFX

HI there

Can the JM4 produce distortion/warm overdriven tones similar to the Ibanez Tubescreamer.

What is the best preset for warm overdriven tones?

Thanks

T

Try some of the Jazz/Blues tones here - http://www.joesjamblog.com/tones4.html Sweet Home Chicago is close.

        Re: JM4 EFX
1     The letters beside the Amp Type - ie "Blues G"  --  what does the letter refer to and how do I get it?

        G=Green R=Red

2     If the link is for tones why is a TEMPO given?

The Tempo is not song tempo it is tap tempo - which relates to the echo repeat rate

3     On the Tone settings where do I adjust - mod, echo, tempo, reverb?

Mod is Modulation which is the knob with the Modulation effects - Chorus/Phaser/Tremolo

Echo is the Delay/Tape Echo/Sweep Echo knob

        Tempo is the Tap button

        Reverb is the reverb knob

        Oh yes one more

I previously asked about the truncated sustain - you suggested I turn off the noise gate - the noise gate was off -  is there anything else?

I am also getting an annoying 'hiss' when I actually play which fades when I stop playing - as though my sound was being processed through a toy instead of a stomp box. - Any suggestions/

See here - http://www.joesjamblog.com/troubleshooting.html . This relates to the Spider jam amp but the JM4 is the same. You should consider doing a factory reset.

Joe thanks for the assistance -

Sorry but Im a bit new to all of this so you'll have to be patient -

Its the step-by-step- idiots guide I need...

1     What does "green" "red" meant and how do I get Blues Red or Green

Sorry for the confusion here. I have a Spider Jam which is slightly different from the JM4. There are 12 amp models on the knob of that name. On the Spider jam, there are two models against each setting CLEAN/TWANG/BLUESCRUNCH/METAL/INSANE indicated with a Red or Green LED. I don't have a JM4 so I'm not sure how they the two tones per position are distinguished other than on the LCD screen.

2 & 3 Can you talk me through this gently !! I am a bit phobic when it comes to anything electronic with flashing lights and buttons

The TAP button (bottom right button beside the LCD screen) sets the speed of the echo if you are using an echo effect.

The Modulation and Echo knobs vary the amount of the effect. This is all explained in the manual page 2.2 under 13 Smart Control FX.

            4     How do I do a "Factory Reset" ?

Power on the unit while holding the Settings/Tone button down for 5-8 seconds.

ALSO not very good at BPM - any tips in selecting for DRUM backing. What are all the settings required when working with the DRUMS only backing ?? Two questions there - sorry !

BPM is Beats Per Minute. The drum backings are actual recordings of someone playing a real live drum kit. If you want to change the tempo of a drum track, you have to use the Time Stretch & Varispeed menu - Press DRUMS/SONGS button twice to find TEMPO/PITCH modes. Press the right arrow to get to TIME STRETCHING AND PITCH SHIFTING and then right arrow again to get to TIME STRETCH which will show the original tempo in BPM and you can change this with the big silver control knob to any tempo you like without altering the pitch.

If you haven't got the JM4 Advanced User Guide which explains all this, you can download it from http://line6.com/support/manuals/ under Stompbox Modellers

On the JM4 there is a "green" and "red" setting for each of the amp model settings (far left knob in the effects row).  As you slowly turn the knob the LED display will say "Model: Clean Red", "Model: Clean Green", "Model: Twang Red", Model: Twang Green", etc.  Its only there for a second or so so pay attention to the display.  There is no LED light to show the color, its only indicated on the screen.
