My computer can't hang when I have to many plugins (Pod Farm) being used at once.

I pretty sure it's not my computer though, this is a very good cpu I have, a beast. I think it has more to do with the music recording software I'm using, Magix Music Maker 10. This is particularly cheap software, like 60 bucks 4 or 5 years ago. My friend gave it to me. It does alright and can use the plugins, gearbox or pod farm. When I have 7-9 tracks using the plugins its tough for my computer to keep things smooth, no hick ups etc. Is this gonna be a problem no matter what kind of recording software I use? Is there a limit to how many tracks can use the plugins at once before it freaks even the best computers out. I was thinking about getting Cakewalk Sonar software. Will this help? I record guitar, bass and vocals dry through the POD X3 live and use plugins in the mixer of Magix Music Maker to get things to sound best so I want to have pod plugins on lots of tracks if needed. Please can some one give me the rundown/technical specs on this? Thanks.
Do you have enough memory, I just added some to my PC because I only had 1gig and it really helped a lot.
I have 2 gigs of memory. My processor is an AMD Phenom 2 X4 810, 2.60 ghz processor (quad processor). The computer should be able to handle it, I think. Does anyone use lots of plugins at once with no problems? If so what recording software do you use?
Does the recording software you're using use more than one core of the CPU? A lot of low-end recording software doesn't so the face that you've got a quad core may not be relevant.
Have you looked at the CPU/RAM usage while you're running the software? That might give you an idea of where your bottleneck is.
If you're not actively changing some of the tracks maybe you could freeze them to cut down on CPU usage?

7-9 instances of the POD Farm plug-in can be pretty taxing on a system with 2 gigs of RAM on a program using only 1 core of your CPU.
+1 to timownes and mykejb to get more RAM and check in your computer's Task manager to check the CPU/RAM usage while this problem occurs.
I assume that the program works fine until you put 7-9 instances of the POD Farm plug-in. I would then assume that you have run out of resources when you have that much going on and a problem occurs.

I think ya'll might be right about the program only using 1 core. The Magix program has a little indicator of it's own showing the CPU usage and it spikes to a 100% frequently when I have all tracks playing but in the task manager it's saying my CPU usage is about 20%. The weird thing is I wasn't having any probs the last night I worked on the song when it was runnung smoothly. Then the next day I tried to work on it without making changes or adding tracks etc. and it started freaking out and freaks out from then on. So I was thinking bout going with Cubase Sonar software, new software. This should be able to utilize my 4 cores properly right? Thanks for the help guy's.
if you want to keep the price low.... http://reaper.fm free to try 50-60$ to own.
i personally use ableton live, but its a larger investment.
