UX1 Stalling Propellerhead Record on Launch

Hi Guys,

I’m pretty unsatisfied here and completely under awed with with my UX1 so far...

My intention was to initially use the UX1 as a dongle to expand the Line 6 amps in Record but I have several issues. I shall sent these out.

1) I now have the UX1 up and running, but if it is plugged in Record stalls when it gets to the launch splash screen. It then proceeds to crash my Mac entirely. If I unplug the UX1 Record launches fine.

2) There were not any installation instructions in the package I received, although I have so far pretty much worked it out.

3) There is now a hum on my right hand M-Audio BX5a Monitor, this is new and I am worried it may be due to...

4) When the UX1 crashed my Mac the first time I had my Lexicon Alpha plugged in and monitors on in anticipation of the great sounds I was going to get with my new UX1 and Record. However what I did get was a very loud crack which seems to have blown the inner workings of the Alpha, and possibly damaged the Monitors!!

So presently I cannot use the UX1 to listen to Record and my existing soundcard is blown.

RE: UX1 Stalling Propellerhead Record on Launch

    Hi,

We're going to need some more specifics to really help you figure out what's going on.

First off... you're on an iMac running OSX 10.5.8 according to your Support Profile.

From experience, I'm fairly certain you only have 3, maybe 4 direct USB ports on the back of the iMac screen. Hopefully you've been using one of these direct ports for connection points with any of your USB audio interfaces. (We don't support the use of USB hub devices for audio interfaces, I cannot speak on behalf of the other manufacturer's products).

On top of this, Record requires either the presence of an Ignition USB key or Internet Verification to open a new project or previously saved one.

Having prefaced with all this... the first critical question: did you install the latest Mac OSX Line 6 USB Device Driver: http://line6.com/software/readeula.html?rid=2795

Second: use a direct USB port connection for the UX1? The Keyboard of the iMac has a USB port, but this is considered a USB connection and I've personally seen it not allow for full bandwidth to our USB interfaces; perhaps to other USB audio interfaces as well.

      3. Of course, you should make sure the latest USB drivers for your other device(s) were installed, too.

      4. In Record, you should have selected the audio interface for I/O in the Audio Preferences.

      5. In Mac OSX's Audio Control Panel the Input and Output sources should've been set to the correct device.

In essence, the UX1 was not going to function as an audio device, simply as a security device to unlock the additional amp models in Record.

If it was causing your system to crash... this points to either: bad driver (older driver installed), bad USB port connection, bad USB cable, or worse case scenario bad UX1 device.

Please let us know with specifics what you've tried. In terms of software installations, please indicate version #'s, because this is important when troubleshooting via text.

      Regards,

      L6Perry

RE: UX1 Stalling Propellerhead Record on Launch

Glad to see you got your setup running better. The takeaway is that it is preferable to use your Line 6 device as your sole audio interface when using Record, but it is not impossible to use it as a dongle. The thing to be aware of is having two active drivers possibly being shared by one or more audio applications simultaneously, and that may, or may not, introduce problems.
