I have some questions!  The M-13 VS the M-9  Are the things you are doing doo-able? Or is it like comparing apples & oranges?

There's good and bad news here when you're comparing the M13 and the M9.  Before we get to that, note the price -- in the US, the M9's street price is $400, and the M13 is $500, though you can buy them for 20% off if you're patient enough to wait for a sale.  I waited.

So the good news for the M9 is that it has all the same exact fx models as the M13.  It has multiple "scenes" that you can setup beforehand and choose between different options on the fly.  The M9 is also a ton smaller than the M13, so a person with a large pedalboard with a lot of other fx can integrate the M9 into it relatively easily (it's about the same size as the MM/DM/DD/etc boxes).

Here are the upgrades you get in the m13:

# of simultaneous fx: M13 - 4; M9 - 3

# of available fx per slot: M13 - 3; M9 - 2 (the M13 uses a 4 slot/3 fx per slot arrangement, while the M9 uses a 3 slot/2 fx per slot arrangement).

# of screens: M13 4 (one per slot); M9 - 1 (total).

Fx Loop: M13 - yes; M9 - no.

As I see it, for the extra $80 or $100, it's a no-brainer.  I don't have a pedalboard full of fx, and all these nice aspects of the M13 are useful to me.  3 fx at a time is pretty tight if you use delay and reverb all the time (which I do).  The bigger deal, for me, is the fx loop.  By not having an fx loop on the M9, you basically sacrifice a signifcant portion of the unit's intended purpose, since I don't really like delay, mods or verbs pre-amp, and I don't like stomps and most filters after the amp.

So back to your question -- "are these things do-able with the M9?" the answer is "many of them, yes, but some no."  For example, the clean sound on the "it's not love" where I ran a phaser into a chorus into a delay into a reverb, no -- the M9 only gives you 3 fx at a time.  But if your amp has a decent reverb on it, you could use the M9 for the other three fx.  Also, where I ran the boost comp before my amp's input on the OD channel and the delay in the amp's fx loop, I can only do that with the M13.  But, for example, if you already have a good wah, a good od/boost pedal and an amp w/ decent reverb, then I could see the M9 filling in nicely in the loop where you really only use the delays, the mods and some of the filters.
