My Backtrack+Mic has suddenly stopped capturing

I have been using it to record band practices. All of a sudden it isn't capturing any files. I tried reloading default settings and played with all possible combinations. Now I am noticing that I can't even force record or mark events. And I just turned off the device and the blue light is still flashing. I plugged in my earphones and hear sound, but also popping and crackling when ever the clip on the back moves.
I think this baby is busted. Help! And, no, I did NOT drop it, although I was tempted to throw it against the wall!
NEVERMIND! I got an RMA and am returning this fragile little thing. Wow! Didn't even last 90 days!
So, I am now on my third BT+ and it stopped capturing after two weeks.
Let's review:
1-Original one lasted almost 90 days. Got RMA. By the way, never a response from tech support!
2-Second one last a whole month before it suffered from loss of capture. This time I called and tried to get my money back. All I got was a rude CSR who delighted in telling me, "We don't have your money--you will have to get it back from the dealer!" He sent me a my third one which lasted about 5 hours.
3-So, now I have put another appeal for help out there from tech support? Do you think I will get any help?
My next step is to call Sweetwater and get my money back. I imagine Line6 will be hearing from them. I would think it would be better for Line6 to help me out and the rest of the people who seem to suffer from the same unresolve (unresolvable?) problem. That has to be better than risking a bad relationship with a major vendor and all the negative press they are going to get over the failure of this product.
Hello,
You've had 3 Backtracks fail on you?
Have you tried resetting the Backtrack's firmware? How about doing an actual physical hard reset of the Backtrack?
Line6Miller
Yep,
I have tried resetting the firmware. Did the paperclip in the hole reset several times. Tried every setting known to humankind!
I was getting partial recordings. Now I am getting nothing although the blue light will blink as if it is capturing and sometimes the red light will flash as if it is clipping.
I have deleted my trash on my MAC. I have tried everything.
Sweetwater is offering to refund my money and get me into something that is more reliable. They called you all this afternoon and apparently didn't have a very happy result in trying to get support either.
Too bad. It is a great concept, just weak on the execution, I am afraid.
Interesting. I just asked every single support rep here if they talked to a Sweetwater tech about a Backtrack and none of them had.
I'd really like to get your Backtrack back here so I can have a look but I understand if you'd just like to return it for something else.

Well, that is what they told me. Anyway, I would be thrilled to have a BT+ that works . . . and keeps working.
Even more, I would like to have the optimal settings for recording our full volume rehearsals or gigs. Finally, I would like to have settings that I could depend on to capture my guitar when I am practicing and plugged in or just using in mic mode when I am playing through my JamVox.
It seems that every time I make a change in the settings, I lose functionality that I can never reclaim.

Hello,
With my Backtrack, I've noticed that the most sensitive Mic setting usually works best when recording my band. I did have to experiment with placement though. I discovered that placing the BT at a higher elevation (in our case a 30U rackmount cabinet) and turning the microphone away from the band had the best results.
I'm not sure why simply changing settings in the BackTrack software would cause the device to fail. I've never ran into that before.
What exactly is happening? You change settings with the software and the BackTrack fails at that point?
I'd be happy to get you another BackTrack however, I'd just like to completely understand how the device is failing. Thanks!
Line6Miller
Mine has been failing the exact same way.
Can you type out each step to take,
here in this forum
so I can test the solution to what seems to be a design or user error.
