Voice Box and Guitar, is it possible?

This is my first post, so please bear with me.

Just bought a HD 500, never had anything like it before.

What I'm trying to do, is replicate Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way."

I want to play the notes on the guitar, and simultaneously use the voice box, as Joe does.

My first question is:  Can it be done with the HD 500?  (I'm guessing it can.)

Second question:  Can it be done with one preset?  In other words, can I run my guitar and microphone through one signal chain simultaneously?

I'm sorry to bug you guys, but I've read everything I can get my hands on, and still can't seem to figure this out.

I have more questions, but figured I'd start here and then build on it.

Thanks,

Jack

Re: Voice Box and Guitar, is it possible?

    There are two options.

The voice Box, which seems automated. you can pick the 2 vowels it will go to, but it will alternate at a auto rythym that has like 4 choices... they should have let us  control this with the exp pedal.. anyhow... it will not be usefull for the foe walsh thing. i use it with A and O to (try to)imulate the beginning of bon jovi's living on a prayer because it is a steady and repetitive rythym.

But what you want to use, I believe, is the Vocoder.

It seems to be used with a dynamic mic instead of a tube+mic that the original talk boxes types of effects were using.

I do not have a dynamic mic to try it here, but assume that you just turn on the vocoder filter effect and plug a dynamic mic in and use the mic as the modifier. I never used the original effects with the tube and the mic so I do not how this will work and sound!

I'm not sure about your second question... if you mean the mic as effect modifier, I believe it's all in one chain, all you have to do is to have the vocoder filter effect enabled somewhere in your chain and the mic is used stricly as the modifier when the effect is turned on.

    Hope this helps!

If you want to use the same mic for vocals on a different signal chain, that I do not know how it would work.

Re: Voice Box and Guitar, is it possible?

Well, you can use a mic for vocals in a seperate signal chain in the same patch as the guitar, panned full right and full left and use the stereo signal to seperate the channels.

And providing DSP availibility you may put whatever effect in the microphone chain, including the voice box, I don't know how it would work with the vocoder though.

But what I was refering to earlier was the fact that the vocoder in Line 6 effect uses the microphone as the effect modifier to replace the mic+tube combo used in the real "talk boxes" to modify the effect. What I mean is that with the real thing, you modify the sound of your guitar with your voice and by blowing in a tube... I think so anyways...

Actually, for the original effect, the tube is hooked up to a speaker or horn so that the guitar signal is blasting out the end of the tube. You put the tube in your mouth, then mouth words, and your mouth forms an acoustic filter to process the guitar sound. The processed sound is picked up by the vocal mic in front of your face.
