Guys,
I'd like anyone who is having issues with pops and clicks with these sepcific processors and our drivers to please post on this thread EXACT computer specs and a concise and detailed recipe of how you are able to reproduce these pops and clicks.
I've been streaming music now on an HP DV9 laptop with an AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile processor on Vista Home Basic 32 bit now for about an hour without one pop, click or CPU spike. Help me reproduce this so I can help you guys get up and running! Thanks.

Hi,
My system specs:
HP TX2590 tablet laptop. Detailed hw specs: http://www.afterdawn.com/hardware/product_details.cfm/10146/hp_pavilion_tx2590
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
No special extra sw or hw installed. USB mouse and keyboard.
I bought Pod Studio GX today. I installed all software from the cd, launched Pod Farm, played for hour or so, and listened to some music from Spotify. No problems. Then, I updated all software, including the device firmware. The computer was then used by different user for 2h or so. Then, I logged in and the noise problem appeared when I tried to play music from Spotify. I tried to reboot and installed the old drivers from the cd, but that didn't help. There's sound clip available of identical issue: http://line6.com/community/thread/4751?tstart=0
The problem is fixed if I switch to "Recording" tab in Windows sound settings, though I still get occasional noise spikes and cutouts.
Right now I'm pretty angry, because year ago I bought Pod X3 Live and had constant USB audio dropouts. I had to sell the X3 at loss.
Edit: oh yeah, the laptop has Realtek High Definition audio device, but disabling it doesn't help.
Hello,
Have you tried unplugging the power supply from the laptop to see if the pops go away?
Line6Miller
Hi,
few weeks ago I bought Novation XioSynth, that also works as USB audio interface. It has the same problem, so this isn't Line6 issue.
Has anybody with these problems tried an external USB controller? Does it help?
I believe the crux of the matter is AMD/vista as i have a m-audio mobile pre that doesn't work well with my amd 32 bit vista laptop - the same machine that is clicking and popping with my Toneport GX - the toneport is flawless on my work laptop which is an XP dual core centrino....having said that i do hope i can eventually use my toneport on my amd laptop.....
I have a dv6-1110ax
The Config is:
AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor RM-74 (2.2 GHz)
• 4 GB PC2-6400 DDR2 (800 MHz)
• 320 GB Serial ATA • 150 MB/sec @ 5400 RPM
• 8X SuperMulti Drive with DL
• ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 • 1 GB Dedicated Graphics
I have 3 USB ports and 1 e-sata port
I've tried installing the toneport drivers in windows Vista SP2 and Windows 7 without any luck. Whenever I try to hear any sound, the cracking sound overpowers the normal sound. The situation is slightly imporved byt installing the AMD USB Filter Driver. Following other people's suggestions of opening the recording options further improves the sound quality, but only to a limit, nowhere near the onboard sound quality, and nowhere near what the toneport sounds like in other machines.
Acer Aspire 5536
3 gigs of ram
AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core QL-64
Windows Vista Home sp3 (32 bit edition)
Litterally bought it 3 days ago, installed all the updates to everything. Have tried EVERYTHING listed in these forums along with downloading multiple versions of asio4all drivers too. Nothing's working at all. Thankfully i have 90 days to return the laptop is this still doens't work.
I'm in the same boat here....just got a Toneport GX to save on cables and adapter hook ups where i was lining a POD1 into my m-audio box - lot's of crap on my coffee table! Anyway i love the concept of the GX..it's exactly what i was wanting for quick practicing set up except the clicks and pops with audio players and the guitare tone...i've been in the DAW game for a while and this 'puter is pretty efficiently run...i'm getting pops runnning at 5-10% cpu????? I'm outta tweeks...... and my m-audio gear is running intense Sonar mixes with no problem....so this is a Line6 driver/ AMD/Vista problem i for sure.....
HP AMD 64 Athlon dual core
3 gig RAM
Vista home 32 bit
Guys, will you ever fix this issue? It's clearly a bug on Toneport's drivers. I've tried with a USB device from Roland and no issues.
Should I just switch to another brand? After being a happy customer of GuitarPort and now Toneport... it's disappointing.
Hello,
I bought few weeks ago new ASUS laptop and active speakers so I could use Pod Studio UX1 when playing with my band. I was quite surprised when I installed Pod Studio and noticed that it was almost impossible to use it due to pops and clicks. I have been using podstudio earlier on my old desktop computer with XP and everything has worked ok with that. My new laptop has far more better performance than my desktop computer so it feels quite strange that Pod Studio doesn't work with. I read from the Line6 forums that many others were having the same issues. I did everything according to Vista audio optimization guide (http://line6.com/data/l/0a06007213339477ea0690cb2a/application/pdf/GearBox%203.5%20and%20later%20Windows%20XP%20&%20Vista%20Audio%20Tips%20&%20Optimizations%20(Rev%20A)%20-%20English.pdf)
but there is still constant crackling noises which are so annoying that Podstudio is basically unusable. I am pretty ****** at the moment as the primary reason for buying new laptop was that I could use it with Podstudio. Furthermore, the store where I bought the laptop wasn't willing to take it back!! So, I really hope that Line6 will solve this problem soon. This should be the highest priority defect in Line6 as this is affecting so many users and is basically making the product unusable.
Here's information about my computer:
Model: ASUS N51TP
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, 32bit
Processor: AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-COre Mobile ZM-84, 2.3 GHZ
RAM: 4GB, DDR2, 800Mhz
Graphics: Ati Radeon 4650
USB 2.0 ports quantity: 4
Please contact me if you need more information, logs or anything. I would really like to get this solved.
Thanks
I have the same problem. I've also installed updated amd usb drivers and updated line6 drivers. The pops and clicks make my toneport gx completely useless. Computer is a brand new Gateway NV52.
Hi guys, a possible solution that I haven't seen mentioned...
When you run Gearbox , go to the options of the .exe file and select "run as administrator".
Do the same for your recording app.
That seemed to make my clicks completely dissappear....
Could work for you...
I noticed this when running Line 6 Monkey and found that it couldn't report on the status of the processor, but after selecting the "run as administrator" it showed the processor as "OK"...
Try it might work!
Sounds like a good posibility there!
Which Version of windows are you enjoying?
And DMA mode for the Drives?
"run as admin" hasn't solved any issue for me or improved performance at all....just FWI my findings...
has anyone here tried the PCI or PCMCIA "solution" here- http://line6.com/community/docs/DOC-4282
I have a dv6815nr and it along with allot of other AMD equipped HP laptops has an expresscard slot. you could get a expresscard to USB card and try running the Pod Studios though it...
right now the only thing keeping me from buying a Line 6 UX2 or Pod X3 is this noise issue. but may have to try this out.
Does the expresscard adapter help? I have same sound issues with Pod Studio GX. My computer is HP 6735S.
AMD Sempron SI-40 2GHz
AMD M780G + SB700
2GB DDR-2-800
160GB 5400rpm SATA
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200
I have tried everything but nothing helps! Operating system is Windows 7 32-bit.
As fate would have it, i found myself in a position to buy a MacBook Pro and did so. Here's hoping Line 6 can work something out for all of you AMD equipped users though (and an official release for Snow Leopard would be nice too!)
I hope they do soon. I don't think its just affecting laptop users mind from what I've read. I've got constant distorted sound from windows sounds...media player...pod farm..it just crackles away...I've tried older drivers..nothin works...
I've got an AMD Athlon 64 6000 X2 and an nForce 7 chipset..XFX 8200 Motherboard to be precise. I hope they get a fix for it soon..or my UX2 will be heading back to the shop..........
i have same problem (click and pop sound) i just buy new notebook ACER ASPIRE 4535 and i so dissapointed to know it

i was resolved my problem,,

i forget download from where...
but i think i download from hp
tx
To pcoz:
Another user reported that the Problems increased, when the USB-Driver-Filter was installed. So Many of us will be very pleased if you can locate the source of your driver. (For Example in the History-Cache of your Browser..) ![]()
By the Way,
i found the following solution without USB:
I installed ASIO4ALL and RiffworksT4
1) i've connected a cable from the PODXT headphones to my notebook's line in (Studio Settings, for a good sound, in PODxt will be enabled automatically)
and connected the regular output to my hifi, system (because if ou connecting to an guitar amp with studio sound settings in podxt, it will be worse
)
2) Or you can use Earphones from Podxt with a Headset, and connect the regular output to the notebook's line in.
Start Riffworks, and in (my) Windows VISTA i had to route manually which Recording/Playing device should be used? (this took me a while to figure out..)
Because, earlier i've started RW and could not hear any sound, either from the instant drummer, or my guitar. In the Audio settings, i had to enable, which device RW should use for the output (HDMI, SPDIF, Lineout,.PC-Speaker)
So far so good. i had Sound from the cowbell instant drummer..
But i could'nt get sound from my guitar. VISTA is not recognicing if an external microphone is beeing pluged into the record-chinch of the notebook.
Therefor i had to open the Windows Sound Settings (At the Bottom Right of the Taskbar.. ), i had to go to recording devices, and enable manually! the "line in recording Chinch"! (First i tried some recordings with the built in webcam-microphones, but in this case you hear the sound of the plectrum while strumming
) The Frelling (this is the frelling from FarScape,...don't know how to spell it, u know? ..John Crichton?) Problem is, that this settings are lost, once you close Riffworks or you click at the ASIO-Options in Riffworks. And you have to do it again, for every recording session...
But it Works, like Riffworks,..![]()
i know, its not as good as using the PODxt USB-cable but, in this case i's' better than nothing... and i can record my ideas again.
The only bad thing is, i want to have an Backtrace, or a UX2 or the TONEPORT UX8, but i wount by it if i have to similar to TONEPORT-Ux8. (i got hte newsletter, what santa claus is going to bring for christmas from Line6...)
Well the complete Line6-Product-Line died for me, because i wount by a new PC only for Line6. I Think i'm gonna sell the PODxt and by somethiong else wich is much better compliant to VISTA or Linux.

try this
http://www.4shared.com/file/174906730/1112d20b/USBFilter1010_XP.html
first i was uninstall line 6 driver..
1.install usb filter
2.install newest line 6 driver.
and i try with pod farm,gearbox,recording..
and problem was resolved for me
I own an HP tx2500 tablet PC with an AMD Turion X2 64 processor. I installed Windows 7 64-bit on my laptop from scratch. I had the same issues as everyone else here. After being fed up, I almost wrote off Line 6 as it being their problem, but the previous poster get me intrigued. I located the exact chipset information from HP support documentation. The specs for my system stated that the chipset consisted of an ATI Northbridge AMD 780G and ATI Southbridge SB700. So... I decided to go directly to AMD's web site and obtain the latest chipset / motherboard drivers from there:
http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx
I obtained version 10.2 of the motherboard drivers from AMD. It all worked! The previous poster was right on the money with the USB Filter driver. The driver package from AMD contained that USB driver. (I suppose I felt more confident getting the latest directly from AMD, but it probably was the same thing.) If you look at the AMD documentation, this driver specifically addresses USB 1.0/1.1 audio device issues, of which GuitarPort is one example of such a device.
Final outcome... it all worked! No noise, crackling and other audio issues, and I have everything enabled in my system. Sounds great!
In defense of Line 6, this problem was an issue with the stock USB support that is being shipped with the AMD-based systems. These systems need to have their chipset drivers updated. HP (among other system manufacturers using AMD chipsets) are not shipping their systems with the latest drivers, nor are they providing the latest drivers on their web sites! I find this mildly unacceptable, but this is typical -- HP has moved on. My system is over a year old now! Sigh....
Anyway, it worked. I suggest that if you are running an AMD Turion X2 system and having problems with Line 6 devices, you should try to locate your exact chipset and obtain the latest drivers from AMD.
Good luck!
Hi brking69,
thanx for your post, but before i'll try your suggestions i've tried another thing.
I read that the Podxt has a USB 1.? Interface. So i borrowed the POD X3 Live from a friend and plugged it into my noisy, clicking and popping Laptop. And Quess... There were no clicks and pops! Only a small background noise if one turns the volumne's to maximum. (which is acceptable) But it has no stable connection. Recording in Riffworks, is only working for 8 Bars! or so and than, (newest ASIO PODX3 driver from today..) Riffworks is losing the "sound output connection". My recorded Riffs and the Instantdrummer were playing but no sound could be heared anymore. If i pluged the PODX3 off and on, it was ok again, but only for another 10-20 seconds. And the Soundoutput got lost again.
Facts:
The PODX3-Live has an USB2.0 Driver, no clicks and pops are heared, but it seems that the ASIO PODX3 driver is loosing the connection to Riffworks after 10-30 seconds..
Maybe this is another important hint to the LINE6 -Techs? (i did not read any X3 users at this investigation post?)

Hello to all!
I have a good message and bad message. Today i updated to the newest monkey installer V1.33 and did the newest usb-driver update via monkey,
and guess...
Bad message:
On PODX3Live There is no live output to the guitar amplifier (Sound from riffwork, Instantdrummer or recorded Music.. or Reaper)
Good Message:
I did non of the Motherboard updates, previous poster mentoined.. only the latest monkey update and my Podxt is working with my HP-Laptop with AMD Turion dual core CPU's ! Riffworks T4 is working fine via USB and no pops and clicks were heard! Can i really believe this? ![]()
And Reaper is working also fine!
Hey Line6, did you solve this problem and did not tell us? ![]()
Anyone else who can record again? I stll can't belive this?

Hi guys, I'm sorry for my English (I'm Italian..). My workaround actually working:
- install USB filter (from HP driver support). I'm not sure it's necessary : (
- keep open the Audio Settings tab (but always keeping the internal mic array IDT HDA ENABLED)
- DON'T DISABLE "Visual Effects" (try! Worked for me!)
My laptop: Hp Pavilion DV5 1103el - Windows Vista Home 32 bit (bleah!)
My Line 6: Studio GX
Hi Guys!
SORRY it was a FALSE Alarm! ![]()
It was only a single event that there were no pops and clicks. Tho white noise is still here. (the next day...)
Anyway, it is interesting that at some point, the noise was gone completely. Maybe because i plugged the PODX3Live in before and did the Monkey update?? And this procedere did something with the inithial status of the usb driver???
(The reason why i did not the Motherboard update or the amd usb filter update is: This is my working Laptop and if something goes wrong, after the bios update, i do not have the time to deal with this.... )-: ) But maybe when my project is finished, i can give this another shot.
regards Metalmusic
That finally fixed the problem on my Acer Aspire 5536g - Amd Turion dual core machine. Actually this fix worked like a charm both in Windows7 and Windows XP on this machine.
No more pops. Cool! Thanks!
Just to repeat what you said to avvoid misunderstandings:
1. Uninstall your line-6 drivers
2. Install USBFilter1010_XP - http://www.4shared.com/file/174906730/1112d20b/USBFilter1010_XP.html
3. Install the latest line-6 drivers
And that was it.
Been struggling like hell with this issue on this laptop.
Seems it is a AMD problem cause I have 3 Intel machines as well and I never had problems with my line-6 UX1 before
D
this usb fliter looks like its for xp...... should i install it in vista and see if it works
It installed fine on Windows 7. I think it's just the name that makes you think it is for xp. Like CDBurnerXP is a free burning application for windows xp, vista, win 7.
Just make sure you do everything in the correct order or it may not work
It works in my AMD-Athlon X2 64bit (with Windows Vista 32 bit - HP Pavilion DV5 1103el).
Note: it's necessary to remove the line6 driver before install the USB filter (after the filter installation reboot and re-install just the line6 GX driver via monkey update).
No more pops&cracks!
After trashing my laptop & rebuilding it with 64-bit Windows 7 the white noise is still there.
Seems to me that I need to add the filtered driver to my machine but does anyone know if there's a 64-bit version?
Darren
good news!
Yes, there's one here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=it&lc=it&dlc=it&softwareitem=ob-75898-1
It works for me with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (HP Pavilion DV5 1103el).
- Uninstall Line6 driver and the installed AMD USB filter (older version, not supporting Win7)
- Reboot
- Install sp44996.exe (USB AMD filter v1.0.10.78 A)
- Reboot again
- Install Line 6 driver
...sorry for my english, i'm italian ![]()
Does the expresscard adapter help or not? I'm sure someone has tried it? Waiting for an answer...
Hey guys,
this is definitely not a AMD/Vista problem, i am experiencing the cracking issue on my Toneport UX1 with a notebook with slightly modded XP SP3 installed.
Specs:
ASUS K50AB:
AMD ATHLON X2 QL64 (puma)
4GB Ram (XP reads only 3.25 gb though)
250 GB HDD
Wi-fi 802.11n
Graphic card's not important.
Has the "VIA HD AUDIO" speakers but turning it off doesn't help.Ofc when the UX1 is disconnected from the usb, music playing works just fine. Still, i can't play my guitar and it pisses me off.
Also, when i restart the comp, it is ok for a while and then it starts over.
USB Filter didn't help, i'm still looking forward to try an USB Hub.
Adjusting buffer size doesn't help.
Turning wifi off doesn't help.
Don't have the ability to "run as admin" 'cause of the XP. Or i just don't know where to look for this in XP.
This is Windows XP SP3!!!! Only slightly modified version, just for the looks, and a few small utilities installed in the system itself.
Help.......
heres my spec, experiencing the same issues with my KB37.
Processor Type: AMD Athelon Dual Core
RAM: 2GB DDR2
Chipset: AMD M780G Chipset
Hard Drive: 250GB - 5400 rpm/td
Display: 15.4″ WXGA (1280 x 800)

Graphics Controller: ATI Radeon™ HD 3200
Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista
Dimensions (WxDxH): 36 cm x 26.7 cm x 4.3 cm
Weight: 2.8 kg
Im gonna take the plunge and buy a usb 2.0 express card adapter, will post my findings
Regards, Calum
THere ya go....the ball is back in Line6's court.....thanks for chiming in!
Just purchased Pod Studio GX and then spent two days doing nothing but trying to fix the deafeningly loud clicks & pops. Have tried every tip/trick suggested in every blog on the internet to no avail. Looks like folks have been having reporting this problem for up year now- very sorry for Line 6 that they can't fix such severe problems faster. This product is supposed to work on vista 64 bit OS- doesn't Line 6 test this stuff before they begin to sell it?
These sounds are so loud (10x louder than the guitar audio level) I am sure I have experience hearing damage. Maybe I should sue Line 6 for my hearing loss? At any rate, tomorrow I am giving up and returning the product to Guitar Center. Based on this experience I doubt I will ever purchase line 6 crap again.
My computer (purchased in Jan 09):
Windows Vista Ultimate
Service Pack 2
HP touchsmart tx2 notebook PC
AMD Turion x2 dual core mobile rm-72 2.1Ghz
4GB RAM
64 Bit OS
Pity i bought my TonePort as used. It really served me well on my old computer but now i even wondered about buying VOX's JamVox instead, if Line6 WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM.
Hi.
After trying absolutely everything:
1. Powered USB hub
2. ExpressCard
3. Run as Admin
4. Reinstall, etc
There's still ocassional noise and in general terms, the Line6 device is not properly working.
Question is: Has anyone tried Windows 7?
Looks like the expresscard adapter doesn't help. I'm using 32bit Windows 7 and still have the same problem.
I don't think Line6 cares about the problem. They don't seem interested in the discussion and no actions are taken to solve the issue. Goddamnit, at least PRETEND your doing something, do you guys see your customers are ****** OFF?
Rather than chuck my kb37 in the bin, ive decided to sell my laptop and buy a new PC. Sadly, its the only option i have left.
However im sure there are other line6 customers who have bought/invested in line6 hardware which turns out to be incompatible with
their current computer setup. Fortunately im in a postion where i can replace my PC, bu its those who cant i feel sorry for.
Line6 should at least, highlight this issue on their literature, warning any users with a particular hardware configuration that there
is a potential for things to go wrong. Cant see it happening though.
As Line6 ARE NOW AWARE of these issues it is, in my opinion, misleading to sell their products without providing such a warning.
Good luck to all and stay creative ![]()
Hi guys
Been running toneport GX on two previous laptops with no probs. New laptop and I can bearly hear any sound thru the toneport due to constant ferocious and deafening crackling and popping.
Acer Aspire 7535 running Windows Vista home
AMD Turion X2 ZM-82 (2.2.ghz)
4 GB Ram
Realtek high definitio audio card
The only thing that fixes it, is bizarrely as someone else mentioned, switching to the 'Recording' tab in the Sound control panel, at which point it behaves perfectly. As soon as I close this window, the problem is back.
Have no idea what this means - but as long as I keep this tab open, I can use my toneport.
crap....that's am acceptable work around but it's not working for my athlon! glad you've got a fix though....

i think line6 do care. if customers are ****** off, then people stop buying gear, and then line6 would lose money. they're not a huge corporation like Boss, line6 is quite a small company compared to their sales.
also if you post on this discussion, line6 chaps aren't flagged that you're posted.
if you want an answer to your individual technical issue, then post a new topic and mark it as a technical question. also include all the info about your PC specs and your operating system, and line6 will open a support ticket for you if needed....
so just to clarify, if you want an answer, you need to ask the question in the right way. if you just want to post that you have had the same problem and with your PC specs so line6 can see it when they need to check this thread, then post here... they mey not need any more info because they're working on a fix so thet may be why this discussion topic isn't being monitored. technical questions on the other hand are flagged on line6's tech support chaps systems that someone needs help, so they respond.
Hi,
i have the same problem with a brandnew HP Pavilion dv5-1112ea Notebook: 4 GB - RAM, 320 GB Harddisk,
Processor: AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile, 2.2 Ghz – ZM82 with 2MB L2 Cache, and WINDOWS Vista (SP1) 32 bit
see:
(On my Old HP-Omnibook XT 1000; 1,2 Ghz, 256 MB Ram, 20 GB HD and USB 1.1, + WinXP i never had this glitches. Only one short every 10 minutes or so..)
When i start Riffworks Line6 Edition, the PODXT shows a clip (althought output + volumne are set to zero..)
If i press the PLAY button (Instant drummer comes...) i have terrible glitches. Theese are so laud, that the instant drummer or the Riffworks metronome (cow-bell) could'nt be heared. The clip is also visible at the ASIO CONTROL PANEL/Inputs & Recording - Tab. even without i press play or record.
And there are many small more silent glitches, to the Speaker of my guitar Amp, even if nothing is activated but Riffwork was started?
I've already found this:
http://line6.com/community/docs/DOC-4282
I have disabled Wireless Lan, set Accu power status to highest Level, set Audio Setup / ASIO control Panel in Riffworks to Extra Lagre - Buffer Size (USB Audio streaming), disabled HDMI Sound..
variing PODxt Monitor Level, ASIO Settings: default buffer size or bit depth, does not change anything..
The mentoined solution with an old printer cable from one user suggested didn't work with my podxt.
If i use an usb-hub, the pops are gone, but Riffworks hangs up while "loading high cowbells", and crashes. without the hub, RW is powering up fine, but the clicks and pops are there.
I have 3 USB Ports on my Laptop. 2 on the right (these are very noisy). The Power Cable on the right is ca. 3cm away from the 2 USB Ports.. And i have 1 usb port on the left side. This has less noise but it's still too much for any recording.
CONCLUSIO:
Normally i'm running with ubuntu Linux 9.04 AMD 64 Bit and only!! for Line6 i've bought & installed a dual boot Vista (SP1) 32 bit to avoid driver problems etc..
*LOL*

Hi,
Just got a new HP DV61215sa laptop a month ago to replace a 6yo Acer!!!.
I too get the popping & crackling when connecting my guitarport and running GearBox.
I found, and this is the strange bit is that all the noise disappears once I plugin my mobile broadband dongle into the 2nd USB. Once the software runs all the noise disappears, but I haven't connected to the web..... Thinking it could be noise generated by the powered USB connections which wasn't on my old state-of-the-ark laptop. I was also thinking of trying a core filtered USB lead, the one with a ferrite core to see if that cures the problem.
i have a toshiba m305d-s4830 laptop with AMD TurionX2 and have the same problem. tried vista 32 bit and 64 bit, winxp 32 sp1 2 and 3, same result. random clicks and pops even when i am playing no sounds.
I think the real problem may just be the ati radeon graphics card drivers conflicting with the line 6 drivers in vista. I have the same problem running a intel core i7 with an ati 4850. Everyone who has posted there system specs here is also running ati graphics cards.
I may just go and buy an n vidia card and see if it changes anything for me.
ati graphics hmm never thought of that... i tried the usb filter driver and nothing changed.
I've just upgraded to Windows 7, and it's almost completely fixed the problem. Still get the occasional stutter but at least it's useable again. Not a great solution I admit, but might be useful.
What system you had had before? And can you please post your specs? I'm curious.
Hiya
It's an Acer Aspire 7535G laptop with:
AMD Turion X2 ZM-82 (2.2 ghz)
4 Gb RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
Was previously running the preinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium, I upgraded to Windows 7 with the free upgrade offer that came with the laptop. All problems are virtually fixed, although it does tend to get stuck and stutter a little when the input level gets quite high. Gone are all the nasty squeals crackles and pops though.
I'm convinced it's to do with the way that Windows allocates memory to the various audio devices installed, and shifts between them when certain programs take control. I think that's why I used to be able to reduce the problems by leaving open the Recording tab in the sound control panel, this somehow designated more resources to the Guitar port. They must have improved the way this works in Windows 7
So you've got an ATI card too, and it seems that Windows 7 may fix this problem. Too bad Win 7 sucks.
I am wondering if the same thing happens with a pod x3 or is it just the tone ports? Is there a difference between the way audio streaming works between the 2 ? If I thought a x3 bean would work where my tone port does not I would go get one.
yes! it's the same for the Pod XT ...i have one, don't use it much but i tried it...same problem!
Ok so aftrer forever fighting with white noise burst with my tone port I did go out and buy a pod x3 and it streams audio and records using asio with no drop outs at all. No heart stoping noise burst anymore
Now what I really like to know is what is different and what exatly fixed my noise? Is it the driver? or the usb 2.0, Or just the hardwre itself?
Hi,
My system specs:
I try to record in Cubase 3 but I hear the cracking sound overpowers the normal sound each a few seconds.
I have changed all parameters device, disconect the mouse, switch off the wifi device, but the sound still been the same, also I
unplugged the power supply from the laptop. I have install the AMD USB Filter Driver but the cracking have increased, then i uninstall it.
I need help to fix this problem soon!!!!
Yeah! Finally I got my asus work with my effect. South bridge drivers helped. Too shame I sold pod and now use korg pandora px5d (had the same problem with pandora).
just installed gx onto my laptop with x2 mobile processors. ... getting cracks and pops. using vista 64 bit
I have a HP dv7 3057nr with this same processor, Radeon 4200, IDT HD Audio Codec.
OS: Win7 64 Home Premium (preinstalled)
I made a thread way back in October last year. And the last reply I left was in February. Line6David and Line6Hugo tried helping me out. Anyone else have this same comp as me and experienced pretty much constant shell errors after installing a TonePort UX2?
The last time I installed was in December. After giving up I ran the installer but it uninstalled hardly anything. It left all kinds of crap in the registry, folders still full of obviusly worthlessness (Program Files x86, Program Data, and even though I'm the administrator and only user, there were still user created tone files in my own Documents and AppData folders, as well as junk in the Public folders, and the other generic Admin folder (that's not the Admin Folder that you can't access.)). I managed to delete all of those manually.
The real trouble I got into was having to manually delete the Line6 control panel icon. which wasn't that easy. With the thanks to UAC and Access Control Lists, I had to give myself access to a System folder to delete it. How do I explain this.... I first made sure to write down what users had what existing priveleges (which the SYSTEM already did, which makes sense), after I was done, I restored the permissions and ownership as they were before. But heres the other odd thing. I seemingly still have access to every single folder and file in the entire Windows directory (not that I'm bragging about it and managed to put Win7 into God Mode, but this is a big severe security risk, its still why Windows is still such an easy target for malware and rootkits). I'm not sure if it was my doing or the shell32 crashes going on, but I noticed that some of the protected folders no longer have padlock icons next to them. But I checked the list of users that also have allowances to the Windows directory, and seen that the TrustedInstaller has more permissions than the SYSTEM. I have constantly been hunting allover Microsoft's website and elsewhere to find a solution to change all of the permissions back to the way they were before. Installing SP1 didn't fix anything.
I definitly want to fix the Windows directory ownership garbage, if it's even possible, but I don't really want to do a bunch of complicating manual registry repairs or manually recreate system files. A reinstall is always a solution, but I don't want to have to uninstall all of the bloatware. Actually I have had to do reinstalls with the other four drivers crashing my machine. Reinstalling nearly failed.
I can honestly say that while the shell32 errors are no more...(or are they), subtle after effects remain (too difficult to describe).
What's the problem with the AMD USB Filter? This was preinstalled on my machine.
It just isn't about Line6 and AMD here. It's also about getting any new drivers for other things. I gave up on HP Advisor, Support Assistant, and HP Update (which all three were not very reliable, and completely useless since the factory warranty expired exactly a month ago). The specific page for my particualar model never has anything newer beyond or even that model is even sold or supported at all. I would like to know of what company manfuctured the BIOS for HP (Phoenix, American Megatrends..? Like HP really manufactures their own BIOS) . I thought about doing a BIOS upgrade.
After uninstalling the TonePort. I would experience overheating (204 degrees F on both cores and 130 degrees and upwards on fan temperatures) And yes I keep the vents and fans cleaned. The overheating got resolved by being stuck with having to use the Power Saver power setting (can't complain too much, at least everything is cooler and the fans don't run non-stop.)
Here's some more abuse I put myself through. Here's where I'll exapand on the shell32...or are they? Thinking surely there had to be one released I decided to upgrade the graphics driver, I thought I would see a somewhat different change, since Firefox 4 and IE9 can use GPU acceleration, and some support for HTML5 and the fact the you can view svg files with IE. I saw TOO many changes. All through last week everytime I went view my personal tracking protection filters, my system would freeze up. It's what I expected, a newer graphics (which I uninstalled) driver was causing some error or memory leak involving a msvcrt.dll. I don't know whether to blame the graphics driver, the TonePort driver (there's still leftover inf and ini files in the DriverStore. Some of those have UX1 in the name.), some weirdness with IE9, installing SP1, me having to delete the control panel icon (why would anybody want to have an icon that serves no use at all), either one or a combination of any. Rolling back to the original preinstalled graphics driver helped.
I'll never install a newer graphics driver unless I have real reason to.
The most bewildering thing is, that through all of this driver nonsense no BSOD.
I never went through this bull with XP Pro (but it doesn't count). It was a custom built machine free of bloatware, except for Windows is itself.
I'm about to put together a Win7 Pro 32 barebone. And possibly see if XP Mode would give me less trouble. I just want to be able to get more use out of my TonePort.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
