I am having the excact same issues that all these folks talk about in the forum about one of the amps Power IC chips going bad.  Just turn the amp on and it goes into a Loud, I mean Loud Hum that you can't stop unless you turn the power to the amp off  I did however after working with it a bit figure out if I un-hooked the white and black speaker wires it would be ok and play fine for a while.  But as the amp heated up or I played louder it would do the same thing even with only the one speaker hooked up.

I bought the Amp new about 8 or 9 years ago.  I have absolutely loved it.  I have never even considered buying a different amp for the last 8 or 9 years but this problem has been a nightmare.  Left me stranded on stage one night with no back up amp.  Never had a reason to carry one since this one has been rock solid for so long.  Now I have bought Three different new amps.  Peavy, Vox and a Fender.  I have to say it left a bad taste in my mouth after leaving me stranded on stage.  I Can't get the same kind of sound out of the new amps that I have bought.  I did the on board battery backup solder change myself and have worked on several IC boards before.  I was wondering if I could by two new chips so I can replace both of them.  Or if you could somehow help me with a discount on a newer model Line 6 would be good too.  Please Help!     I bought the Spider III 150 and the Spider Valve 212 today.  Hopefully I can get the sound back that I had.  I'm sure I can with a little bit of work but would still like to fix my IIXL and need the chips to do it.

    Hello,

     

    We usually don't sell parts directly to end users but I'd suggest calling our parts department anyway and seeing if there is anything they are willing to do for you. I cannot guarantee anything but it's worth a try.

      So basically After ten years use I can just throw the amp in the trash.  Not the support I was looking for and I'm now regretting buying two more Line 6 amps.  Since I am an end user!!!

        its a 10 year old Solid State [SS] amp dude !

        What do you expect.. ???

        Find something else in your home that's 10 yrs old and try and find parts for it.. like your analog TV !

          For anyone Interested.  You can order the chips to fix this problem at www.digikey.com

          The chip number is LM 3886 TF  They are about $8.

           

          And s0c9  It's easy to get parts for a 10 year old Amp including a 10 year old TV.  DUDE!!!  You just need the support from the company to give out the part numbers or schematics.  Which this company does not.  By the way Solid State Amps were built to last a lot longer than the old Tube Amps.  Dude.  This forum is for us to help each other out not post smart *** comments to people's posts.

            Did you just pull the part number off the chip? That usually the only choice...I am curious how the repair goes for you...

            Take a chill pill dude... those who've been here a while know who I am and my contributions to this forum, so I do not need to justify my replies.

            I'm totally aware of parts availability, but most folks who frequent these forums do not have the tech skills [nor desire] to open up an amp and "fix stuff", especially replacing chips and using a soldering iron. Some do.

            Either way, they just want a solution to their problems.

             

            For those that want to dig in, you provided a solution.

          As I mentioned in another thread, the IC in my XL II had been replaced by GC-Warwick's Line 6 authorized tech, who did a hack job by cutting the failed IC flush with the circuit board, and mearly soldering the new IC on top.

           

          Vibration and heat caused it to fail almost immediately after the "repair". The silver lining to the story is that when GC took the amp back in return, I was able to buy it cheap. I replaced both IC's and the amp has been working fine since. I must say that the Line 6 parts guy was a Cool Dude. He hooked me up with a new version eprom and an effect selector knob which was also faulty.

    I was very happy with my Flextone II XL for 7- 8 yrs, but recently I found a broken capacitor laying in the bottom of the amp after arriving at a gig. The amp worked, but not the same. The next day I took it apart and found out where it came from. Its on the circuit board where the power cord plugs into. I took the part # off the board (35-00-0035) and thought it was an easy replacement until I called Line 6 and they said that part is no longer available. i was upset. They gave me some specs on the capacitor that gets soldered on, but its not readily available. I found something similiar but now I just want to get rid of it, don't want further problems or an amp that you can't get parts for.
