I have having major issues with my unit.
I have the recording program ABLETON installed on my pc that came with the toneport UX1 and gearbox.
When I try recording material the music keeps jumping and making a crackling noise soon as i press record.
I have changed the lead and changed headphones and still causing the same issue.
Can someone please advise to what it could be as I cant record anything when its this bad.
many thanks
lee
Hello,
Welcome to the wonderful world of optimizing your computer to record audio over USB. Pops and clicks can be attributed to many different things and tweaking some stuff on your computer and within your driver settings will help you fix this.
Here's what we recommend:
1. Fill out your support profile at http://line6.com/account/supportprofile/
2. Ensure that you have tested all cables to make sure that they are not defective (USB, audio, etc.)
3. Ensure that you have all cables connections set up properly
4. Adjust the Buffer Slider in the Line 6 Audio MIDI Control Panel. (Windows Users: Start/All Programs/Line6/Tools/Audio-MIDI Devices; Mac Users: System Preferences/Other/Audio-MIDI Devices)
5. Adjust Sample Rates and Bit Depths in the Line 6 Audio MIDI Control Panel and ensure that the Sample Rates and Bit Depth settings in the Line 6 Audio MIDI Control Panel also match the project settings in your DAW/recording application
6. Ensure that you have the Line 6 device set up in your operating system as the main input/output device (sound card); disable internal sound card in your operating system’s Device Manager control panel
7. Ensure that your Line 6 USB Device is not connected to a powered USB hub; direct USB ports are required and please try ALL available direct USB ports during the troubleshooting process
8. Remove all non-essential USB peripherals from the computer (not the mouse or keyboard)
9. Disable any wireless cards on computer in Device Manager
10. Set Power Schemes on computer in Control Panel (PC Only) to Always On
11. There are also several other tips and optimizations you can make on your PC. Please refer to the following document for more information:
You also didn't mention what kind of computer or operating system you are running. If by chance you are running Windows Vista then I suggest you also take a look at this video tutorial.

was messing with the settings before with Ableton recording and made it worse.
Im wondering whether it would be best to completely erase the Ableton software.
Is Audacity any good as a music recording tool for line 6 toneport UX1?
Well it can be on any system. Optimization is something you will need to do NO MATTER the system, hardware or DAW software.
But it seems you maybe haven't tried the suggestions listed above as I do not see a completed support profile. Any one of these tips could be effecting your audio so you really should review it and try adjusting those settings. If 'messing with Ableton' made it worse, you should take specific note of WHAT you changed and change it back as it may be that you must adjust same setting in another DAW. Just going to another DAW could resolve it but that's assuming the DAW is the cause. If not, changing DAWs will do very little.
So please go through some of those suggestions, let us know what works / doesnt. Also complete a profile so we know what you are working with.
I got exatly the same problem with Toneporrt GX , works fine a old laptop (xp) i got but not with my brand new (vista).
Dont think it has anything to do with vista or xp , know someone who use it with an older vista pc.
When it works fine with the old one it can't be the hardware , and i use the same software on both.
I have tried all the methods of optimizing my pc and it still hasn't resolved the problem.
Thanks for your advice but I think its faulty and will need to be sent back for repair.
