..regarding x3 live effects loop..

..i've got 2 tonebone pedals with high gain settings in the loop , configured 'pre' , and yet to get enough level , the return is at +20db -
the amp block is off , and i've got the eq set with mid cuts , to try and get the cleanest sound , going into the fx return of a marshall avt combo..
this works ok , but if i try to switch the amp block on , the levels all are way too low -
if i put the loop 'post' , then the comp/boost doesn't have nearly the desired effect..
i must be doing something wrong..
also there's alot of noise when the pedals are on - the gate seems to have little effect - shouldn't it be at the end of the chain?
lastly , the momentary display feature for the amp tone controls doesn't seem to be working at all , minor gripe , but still ??
any advice appreciated , thanx , cam..
have you tried.... Guitar > T-Bone pedal 1 > T-Bone pedal 2 > X3 Live > amp effects return?
..not yet - seems obvious i guess - which begs the question , what is the advantage of using the loop?
sorry , i'm a bit new to this stuff , thanx anyway 4 the reply..
I use the loop for modulated effects, delays, and what not. I always use gain pedals in the front along with wahs and EQs
..cool - i'll try it , thanx again , geeker..
no problem. Have fun and experiment!!!!!!
Regrettably it seems like the X3ls effect loop is not usable for boost-, gain-, overdrive-, distortion- or compressor pedals in pre position because the loop level is set for line level, not instrument level like that from guitar pic ups, etc. It's a minor problem for most players (they can connect the pedals after guitar and before X3l), but not for us Variax-players. I hope there will be an upgrade that can solve this in the future......

..ah that's why - well anyway yep , easy fix for non-variaxers - still i'm wondering about the momentary display thing - anyone else got this glitch?
it was added with a later firmware update, is your firmware current?
ok yeah i see now - however having problem registering.. excellent..

I've run all sorts of stomps in the loop without problems. You can tweak the send and return levels. It may default to line level, but there's a pretty big range of adjustment to accomodate just about any effect. What was the specific problem you were having?
I've tried a Retro-Sonic compressor pedal. Works beautifully in front of X3l, but so far I haven't been able to make it sound decent in pre position in the effect loop. In addition I get a lot of noise that the noise gate can't handle since it placed before the effect loop in the effect chain...

..the problem was the lack of level in the amp block subsequent to getting enough back in from the loop.. solved by putting the tube pedals before the x3 , with the added bonus of having these now available for both tones - and the residual noise has pretty much gone with a bit of gate adjustment.. all smiles now..
