POD XT PRO is always showing a clip even with NOTHING plugged in

I just purchased a new POD XT pro. I hooked it up and played my guitar thru the front panel "guitar in" jack. Everything worked perfectly. Went to bed and woke up this morning to play some more. Turned the POD on and the clip light is now always on. Even when there is nothing plugged into ANY jack except the POD's AC power cable. I can't figure out any way to result the unit or get the clip light to turn off. It appears to be frozen in clip mode and no other buttons do anything. I can flip the power switch, power the unit off...wait 10 minutes....power on....and still the green signal and red clip light are both illuminated. Again..this is with NOTHING else plugged in. No other buttons or knobs appear to function.
Do I just have a bad unit? or is there a way to reset the unit?
hold save and edit buttons down while powering up until initiate edit buffer appears. press tuner/system button. failing that, reflash memory.
Thanks for the suggestion. No luck though. No buttons appear to make any difference (although I notice the TAP button remains lit...but still does nothing). Not able to get a signal thru via USB for a reflash either.
try reflash in safe mode. hold left soft key under screen while power on until safe mode appears, then reflash
tried holding the left soft key down and powering on....looks like the unit will not enter safe mode, flipping the power switch still just brings on the clip light and the signal light and illuminates the tap button. otherwise the unit is unchanged....just seems "frozen" in that state. I do notice the backlighting to the screen comes on...but there is no text or icons...just a faint, yellow showing me the screen is getting power.
try the second button, it's an sram test and the fourth is a key function test. pressing keys should come up on screen
tried pushing each of the keys individuallly and holding them down during power on. no change (and no response). it's almost like the main board just gets no input from anything on the front panel. the power swtich, of course works.
have you heard of this happening before?
if the store has a return policy, take it back for exchange
on other thought....I had this xt pro mounted in a rack mount setup with the main power cord going into a Furman power conditioner (glorified power strip). Like the rest of my equipment, all units are set to power on, and I use the master power switch on the Furman to actually power the rack on and off. so....flipping the furman swtich turns on and off 5 other pieces of gear.
I am wondering if this is bad for the xt Pro? in other words, should I always power it on and off as an individual unit? given its sensitive digital componentry, maybe it's best to power it separately?
i don't know why that would make a difference. the power conditiner is supposed to be stable. have you tried it yet?
alright...musiciansfriend has a 45 day 100% satisfaction policy....so I am just going to have them send me a new one, and return this one.
The power conditioner is definitely stable and creates no problems with my other equipment. I doubt it created the problem.
Lastly, is it a bad idea to leave a music cord plugged into the "guitar in" input, but without a guitar attached? I ask because often I leave the cord in, rotate different guitars, and sometime just leave the end of the day with a 1/4in plug still in the POD. I am just wondering if somehow have that cord plugged in a few hours but with an instrument at the other end could've caused some sort of clip damage. Hard to see how given it was delivering no load to the POD...but maybe?
i would think the open end of the cord would just be an extension of the pods input, as long as there is no contact with a voltage high enough to damage something.
This fixed my pod! ![]()
I had a blank screen and flashing clip/signal indicators and now its fixed after installing the flash in safe mode
thank you so much.
Hello,
You have done all the trouble shooting you can at this point, so you should have the unit repaired at your local service center or replaced. I have always preferred to power units on individually (rather than from the rack power unit) as this can sometimes cause loud pops in your rig if the power amp is turned on.

I received a new unit today several days ago from Musicians Friend. Have had no problems at all with it, and am very satisfied.
100% satisfaction policies are the places to shop!
Glad you got a new unit OK. For future reference, I have had patches on my Bass PodXT (non Pro) where you have the gain turned way up on the amp model and have a STOMP distortion model with lots of distortion, sometimes it will start feeding back on itself & clips while playing nothing on the electric bass, but then it stops feeding back when I start playing the bass.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
