The guitars that are on the ocean now...
Oh boy! I have been waiting months to hear that something about these guitars travelling on the ocean. Is there are container vessel full of them?
I wonder how many guitars could fit in a container vessel?
Again, Rich, it is nice to see you back in action.

They have all come on the ocean.

But this is the biggest shipment yet coming. Like I have been saying, we will be caught up worldwide in the early Fall.
I am only back in action here, behind the scenes, I have been in action for you guys the whole time. To me, you guys and artist are the same. You are all looking for inspiration, tone, and fun. Plus great value.

I have now played two 69s in guitarguitar Glasgow. One had a very smooth finish on the neck, the other was exactly as Digiprod describes. It's like the last stage of sanding/polishing was missed. It's apparent as soon as you touch the guitar so it does not say much for the quality control process at Line 6.
There is no sanding or polishing to be missed. A flat finish is a gloss paint with solids added to it to have it dry flat. I wish I could touch what you guys are to see how rough some seem to be. The simple fix if it is too rough for you is to hit it with some steel wool.

I agree totally about the top E string being too close to the edge of the neck profile. I know you don't bend the string down into dead space but even playing something like a Dsus4 it was uncomfortably close to popping out of the nut.
How would holding a Dsus4 cause the string to pop out of the nut? I understand what guys are saying about the 69 and the string sliding off the fret but not pop out of the nut.

Have you checked to make sure your neck is in alignment with the bridge. You may need to loosen the screws and adjust the angle of your neck (side to side) to make sure your strings are evenly aligned with the neck to the bridge. This is something that tends to happen when shipping guitars from time to time. The distance from the low e to the top of the fretboard should be the same as the distance from the high e to the bottom of the fretboard.
This is not to start more discussions about how L6 should fix their quality control. Sometimes after shipping guitars need adjustment. Keep in mind that these guitars are shipping from Korea, and probably making many stops on the way to your house. I hope this helps.
This is a good thing to try. Not all of you may have the frets beveled the same. Some may be the neck shifted. If you hold the guitar with the upper horn on your belly perpendicular to your body you can gently pull the neck toward you and shift the strings toward the bass side. Then take a screw driver and be sure the screws are tight. This might help some of you.

That picture made my day. I now officially have a backup plan if I hate the neck on my JTV-69 but still love the rest of the guitar.
Again, my back up plan would be a killer fret job with a great luthier. Probably cheaper and then you knock the quality of the fret job up to the US standard. Honestly, no offence intended, but the warmoth neck looks silly and to me, it looses the value. But I play a Lakland Jazz instead of a Custom Shop Jazz because I am anti-establishment.

I made some picture of the headstock of different guitars, look at it and tell me why the one of the Variax is more awfull than the rest, I don't see it.
Sorry to oppose, but in my opinion that JTV headstock is clearly the ugly duckling in that collection of headstocks. Perhaps if they had coloured or stained the headstock and used a nice Script font for the logo, it would suit me better. But as it stands it looks ugly in shape, in colour and in typography.
However... that is only a matter of opinion. If you don't feel the same way, I urge you not to be swayed by my opinion. I *wish* I could like the look of it... I really do.
It is also a matter of time and familiarity. When Leo did the 6 in line headstock like Bixby's guitar player revolted and puked the same way. Wow, ugly, horrible, etc. They said stuff like, it looks like a violin headstock that has been sliced through the middle.
Also, many of you don't know Tyler's legacy. His guitars with that font and name on it have been played on close to a billion records by many of the top session guys like Michael Landau, Dann Huff, Dean Parks, Steve Lukather, etc. The tip of the headstock is just like his own guitar and his name and the killer Variax functionality coming together is what the headstock is all about.
Headstocks are the hardest thing to make original and something everyone likes. As we showed around the prototype, I hoped for 75% of guys to like it and got that. So I know we were good to go. But not everyone will bond with it right away.

I think what I wrote probably came over all wrong dude, I didn't mean to dismiss anyone having a love for fine crafted instruments, just not something that bothers me. I retract that statement. I meant no offence.I knew you changed for feel. 1 11/16 nut and I am sure the feel is more like you like. The neck is one of the hardest to make the biggest group happy with and from what I can tell with my artist/beta guys/and forum talk, we picked good. In the future, we want to do more feels. But it is a never ending quest.

It did not offend me at all.

geez, L6: you SUCK. why on earth would you give your suppliers ETA on JTV orders then consistently blow them! First May. Then June. Now August. Make it easy on those of us who are waiting and just say, "some day." Worse still, the vendor from whom i ordered my JTV keeps telling me they still expect the june 4 orders as you STILL have not changed or updated the info, as if you somehow actually believe they will be arriving.
I'm fine with the wait. What i'm not fine with is you guys just randomly throwing out dates knowing full well they're clearly based upon whims.
raze
Razorfish. I don't know how many different ways that I can explain how complicated the sales channel is. I am in here giving broad dates in general. I know for a fact that we have told some dealers real dates and they have chosen to string their customers along. That is their choice. We can't stop them. That isn't to say that we haven't changed dates either. But as soon as we know the dates are changing, there is a whole machine that has to kick in to get the word out. It is not easy or simple to explain. As I said before, I got into it and it became a deep pit. I have to let the experts in their departments deal with their people.
Also, I had a guy who was in here freaking out about not getting hooked up with a JTV that he ordered way last year and as it turned out, the dealer was not even a Line 6 dealer. We can't control that. But he was in here posting how mad he was. So if you don't know the back story, it can look like we suck. But we didn't in that case. In fact, I helped him figure it out and he got it straightened out on his side. That is not our responsibility. We can't control the entire dealer base.
All I can do and hope for is that when we are finally caught up and shipping en masse it will ease the pressure.

Rich, seriously there are several reports of what looks like very similar switch problems as before that have been recently posted. These 59s were just delivered new ones I believe. Having these new issues still points to a QC issue. Needs to be addressed. If it is great.
Digiprod,
I think Rich R.is saying there are three groups of JTV-59s:
Group 1: JTV-59s with bad original switch shipped to customers. The switches were replaced but some units had the "excess solder" problem
Group 2: New JTV-59s with bad original switch, which Line 6 repaired themselves prior to shipping to customers. Some of these units had the "excess solder" problem (from a customer perspective these are the "new" guitars that are having problems). I believe these are the ones you believe were "just delivered".
Group 3: New JTV-59s that were manufactured (in Korea) with the new switch. Since these never had the bad original switch, there is no solder problem with these.
A customer can't tell whether the JTV-59 they received with the new switch was originally manufactured with the old switch, then replaced by Line 6 before shipping, OR a JTV-59 that never had the old switch installed.

I find it interesting that Rich Renken hasn't posted in this thread for about 2 months. I wonder what is happening with Line 6.
It feels like either they have switched priorities and have given up on trying to put out the fires of this dreadful product launch--publically at least. Hopefully they are still doing what they can do behind the scenes. I wonder if their company is wavering with all of what has gone down here and is just trying to survive the storm? It seems pretty risky to be not keeping their customers and fans informed about what is happening, and they seem to be pissing off more people than not. That can't be good for business in terms of public perception.
I also worry that because of all that has happened, this may be the end of the Variax product line. That would be a real shame, since this is a really phenomenal product.
Would be nice to have an update from someone in the know.
There was nothing to tell. Funny you posted this today. I just booked out my Outlook calendar to work from home in these and other forums every Monday and Wednesday because of what you are saying here. If I am gone to long, I understand it can feel weird. Even if there is no news, that can be the news, but I have to communicate that with you.

Rich, can you guys fix the '59 switch issues once and for all?
There are multiple reports of the NEW '59 switch failing. The claim is that the soldering work is bad.
I am struggling with this myself. Should I just return it, cut my loss and spend the money somewhere else? Or, should I take a chance on it getting fixed when I send it back to Line 6? How can we be sure that they have in fact isolated this issue as simply "bad soldering" or "flux". I hope Line 6 understands the lack of confidence this whole experiece is giving to customers. FFS! Guitars and music are SUPPOSED to be the fun part of our lives that we actually enjoy!! If I want to experience frustration, I can get it o' plenty at work or home. I don't know guys...this is a tough call. It's a very cool guitar but after all of this, it's quickly losing its return on investment for me.

I don't think I'm adding much value by ranting here so I removed the other half of this post...

Sweetwater had Line 6 create a ticket for me and of course, they want me to return the guitar. Now, I've already read 2 reports on this forum where people have returned the guitar and got it back with scratches and minor damage. Not cool! And it gets weirder....
The agent who sent me the RMA instructions left this "NOTE": "Line 6 is not responsible for the damage caused in transit. If your unit has been damaged in transit please contact your carrier to file a claim." WTF?!
Doesn't Line 6 INSURE these shipments with UPS? Why would you even SAY that to a customer who has already been through a bad experience waiting and waiting and then receiving a problem guitar. I have insured EVERY guitar I've sold and mailed. It's not very much extra to insure it. Well, if Line 6 trying to scare me away, IT'S WORKING!!!It truly is an easy fix. I just sent you a PM. We will not leave you hanging.
As to that note about shipping, I am looking into it. It may be that you have to contact UPS to file the claim because they have to come and inspect the guitar.

Thanks Rich! I know you are very busy and I do appreciate the willingness to help. That last "NOTE" from Line 6 about not covering damages in transit was a bit of salt in the wound and set me off a bit. I really need to stop posting when I'm that frustrated. It's not productive and generally just makes me more irritable. This whole experience has been more than I bargained for. I hope you guys finally get it right because I really want this guitar to work. It's such a cool concept!
