Midi out problem as with earlier version.

I've just installed Vyzex 1.17 after uninstalling an earlier version. Getting the message "Can't open Midi Out Port USB Audio Device. Driver may already be in use" - then software fails to run.

I went through the motions of editing the registry as in the troubleshooting instructions and it was then that I realised I'd already done that a couple of years ago to get the earlier version running... so now what?

I'm using Windows XP Home.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

The USB MIDI driver supplied with Windows (XP, Vista and even Win7) is single-client which means any other music software you are run will compete with the editor for the PocketPOD MIDI Port. Are you running any other MIDI port using software while trying to run the editor?

Have you tried rebooting your computer? If the USB MIDI port is locked or hung at the OS level, this is the only way to clear it.

If that doesn't work, run the uninstall routine and reinstall the editor.

The fact that the earlier version also encountered MIDI port issues on your system indicates a hardware issue with either your computer or the PocketPod. If you want to blame the editor software for being unable to open the port feel free, but you'd be on the wrong track with this conclusion.

            1. Try other MIDI ports on your computer

            2. Try another USB MIDI cable with your PocketPOD

            3. Try the software on another computer

Let us know how it goes.

Re: Midi out problem as with earlier version.

Another thought here - Perhaps your computer has a software or device MIDI port unrelated to the PocketPOD installed that is causing the software to have issues because it won't open: Do you have any other MIDI devices connected to your PC or software drivers like Hubi's loopback installed?

If so then the odds are the last time you had these problems the solution explained for you was to manually configure the PocketPOD editor not to open all MIDI ports on launch and to set up the MIDI In and MIDI Out ports manually. If this was the case and you decided to upgrade to the newer software version those custom settings would have been wiped out allowing the other devices on your system to interfere with the editor's autosensing routine again. The final piece of the problem would be you forgetting what the solution was the first time and simply assuming the software was buggy: Re-installing the older version would not restore your old custom settings and the problem would persist.

So, why not try reinstalling the newest version and follow the steps in the preferences guide to configure the program not to open all your computer's MIDI ports on launch (the MIDI->MIDI In Ports... dialog and MIDI->MIDI Out Ports... dialog are where the check boxes can be found for these options). Manually select the PocketPOD ports from these dialogs and restart the program.

Let us know how it goes.

I am happy to hear we figured it out and you are back in business.

Those are good suggestions regarding the troubleshooting PDF: I'll have to arrange for it to get updated.

                  Cheers,

                  Tony
