Hi,
I am looking at buying a Toneport UX2 2nd hand from ebay, but the seller has stated it comes with no software. If I buy the unit am I able to download the software from your support site (assuming there is an identification tag or other on the actual device)? ALl help before I purchase greatly recieved. Many thanks, Paul.
well the main software you need is a free download (the downloads link at the top of this page). the original version that shipped with toneports is gearbox. but that's replaced by POD Farm v1 (more recently pod farm 2, but it's not a free upgrade for toneports).
the only other thing that came with my toneport ux2 when I bought it was ableton live lite. it's a cut down recording application, but if you're not bothered about having ableton, there are other free alternatives. just search for free DAW on google and you'll find some. another thing that didn't come with them but comes with the pod studio UX2 (which replaced the toneport, but it's essentially the same) is riffworks T4, which is a free download from www.sonomawireworks.com anyway.
i do know if you register ableton live lite then you can actually download the latest version of live lite from abletons website. it's not an easy process but it's possible. you basically use the serial key on your ableton CD that came with your toneport to register on abletons web site, then you get the download.
So if you haven't got the original CD read this: http://line6.com/community/docs/DOC-4388 but it means the ebay seller would need to give you the original proof of purchase from when it was new...
another alternative is to see how much a pod studio YX2 is brand new on the internet. often I find new isn't much more than used from ebay, and the pod studio's will come with pod farm 2 license, which will cost you $49 to upgrade and have the latest goodies anyway. then there's the extra FX models the pod studio comes bundled with for free.
my advice is get the pod studio UX2 if you can afford the extra... and get it new, it'll be less hassle with lost licenses, etc.
Hi Rowbi,
Many tahnks for making the time to reply, its a whole new world of electronic wonderment for me
have been playing unplugged for ever and the new Baden guitar opens a new world of toys.... I have had a loko at some otehr posts about registering 2nd hand Pods, the standard reply seems to be Line 6 opening a support ticket? Does this mean they resolve the issue and actually re-register I wonder?
Stay in the mix and in the know.
