Tuner doesn't tune with Aux signal?

I have a hollowbody w/ piezos and when I use that guitar, I route the mag pickups into Guitar and the piezo into Aux and then set my patches for that guitar to use use the appropriate input and set the other input to Variax or something (would be nice to have a None/Ignore option for input a and input b, but that's another topic).
When I have a patch configured to only take input from Aux, the tuner doesn't work. I have to switch to another patch that has the magnetic pickups (ie, the input set to Guitar) in order to tune.
Is this the expected behavior? The X3 tuner would work with input from either Aux or Guitar inputs.
I'm hoping this got lost in the forum sorting confusion... can anybody reproduce this?

True. But the X3 tuner would only work with Tone 1, not Tone 2. I know the POD HD is a totally different beast but perhaps with respect to tuner functionality it is similar.
I don't own the HD500 so can't test this myself, but perhaps you can test to see if bychance the HD500 tuner responds only to the Path A input and not the Path B. It may be the path rather than the input that is restrictive.
Here's the connections, paths...
Input 1 - set to variax, nothing plugged in
Input 2 - set to "aux"
Path A is a no-amp model, misc effects pre/post. Nothing configured for path B.
All works -- signal goes end to end through Aux. Then turn on the tuner and nothing...
Tuner only works for input 1, I believe. Was the same way on the X3 as I recall. To verify, I set input 1 to Aux and fired up the tuner. Works. Set input 1 for guitar and input 2 for Aux, tuner does not respond.
Setting Input 1 to Aux fixed it. Thanks!

Bean, Pro, or Live? My X3L could not use the tuner with the aux input.

Really? I think the restriction is by Tone, not input. Have you tried using the X3L tuner using Aux Input on Tone 1? I'm almost certain that mine works that way - but now you've got me second guessing myself. I'll have to check that out the next time I power up my X3L - right now it's definitely playing second fiddle to my HD400!
Ah, you're right. It was just a tone1/tone2 issue, not an input issue. Sorry, my memory was fuzzy. Sold off my X3L awhile back.
Sorry to resurrect such an old post, but the tuner not working on input 2 is a real problem to me. I use a variax and a regular guitar, so I set input 1 to guitar and input 2 to variax for most patches. (I don't want to set both inputs to guitar+variax because I will then get a summed signal whichever guitar I use and this gives an overly hot signal to the amp model.) However, this means the tuner won't work for the variax plugged into input 2. A semi workaround is to set some patches with input 1 variax/input 2 guitar, but this isn't ideal in a live setting. An added complication is that I'm using the S/PDIF into a Vetta and the S/PDIF signal isn't muted with the tuner.
Wouldn't it be possible to have the tuner function on both inputs and mute the S/PDIF output?
Not to trivialize the problem, but of course in the meantime you can simply use an external tuner between your guitar and the Input 2 jack. If you don't have an old one lying around I expect you could pick up a suitable used one for next to nothing these days.
I take your point - it's not the end of the world! I love the sounds I'm setting from the HD500 and the overall flexibility. It just seems that it would be easy to update it so that both inputs register on the tuner and it wouldn't negatively affect anyone.
I do think that the input setup is confusing, with both inputs summing if set the 'same', unless you're using dual amps without a mono effect in the pre position. But that's the subject for another thread!
