Transfer tones from Pod X3 Live to Pod HD500

So i'm keen to upgrade to the new pod hd500 but i have some custom tones on my x3 live i want to keep and transfer over to the pod hd500..
does anyone know if this can be done? and how so?
thankyou!
if you save them through the pc software... surely they can be loaded back through there? I have a hd500 if you wanna try sending me a tone.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news guys but.... currently you can't use a tone from any other device except another POD HD 500. Each new POD HD device uses a different file format. In this case *.h5e & *.h5s
so you can't just change the extension/format to one of the supported ones e.g *.h5e & *.h5s..?
No. The HD series uses all new effects and amp models. Some models are similar to the earlier versions such as the reverbs and distortion selections, but others are completely new, i.e the amps. You can't transfer the tone files, and even if you try to recreate them by dialling in the same effect, amp, settings, mic selection, etc, the result will sound significantly different to what you had on your previous POD. You'll really have to get to know your new amp models and effects.
I'm going through this process at the moment after moving from a POD XT Live.... I have more then 50 tones that I use regularly with my band that I need to recreate.
that kinda bites. i just wanted to know that i would still have those sounds until i had time to make new tones.
so how are you going in re-creating them? should i maybe hold off?
Well I'm struggling to find the time needed to recreate them myself. I don't like to dial in a tone whille listening on headphones as they tend to sound wrong through the PA at band practice. The few that I've managed to dial up during band practice so far DO sound pretty awesome - better then what I had before. I dived in head first and bought the HD 500 as soon as I could because I wanted to get this learning curve over and done with ASAP. I'm expecting the HD benifits will really pay off once I know all its ins and outs.
Im dealing with the same issue! I guess i'll have to connect my X3 live to one amp and the HD 500 to another and try to dial it in manually. This is going to take all day. There are certain patches that I need to have from the X3.
Me too brother!
Well I tried to today w/o avail. I opened up the windows folder and took a tock POD Farm 1 file and also a POD Farm2 file both Guitarport as well as POD X3 Pro patches and first changed the windows file properties to be seen by the HDEditor. Then I changed the file name of the file to the HD Editor's naming convention file extension. No cigar. The old renamed files have different internal headers etc, that cannot be read by the HD Editor. Line 6 made damned sure of that. I am hoping down the road they will write a software app that can convert one format to the other but I am not holding my breath.
~skygod~
I have tried setting up patches side by side between my X3live and HD500. They sound completely different. I would strongly recommend starting from scratch and setting up basic patches and moving on from there. I have attached a file that was posted by a guy on this forum that has all the amp models that can be uploaded onto the HD500.THIS IS A GREAT STARTING POINT!!!
COOL, Thanks!
Yup, no way to load them in. Just wouldn't make sense, as there's not enough correlation between the X3 models and HD models.
What I do, is load the patch into the X box, make note of all the parameters, then try and construct the same or similar effects and amp in the HD along with the settings. Then I play both (X series and HD series) through a speaker or amp to tweak the HD version.
A fair amount of work, so I'm just doing several patches a night (no hurry) BUT you will be rewarded with superior tone in almost all cases.
Here's a related thread that provides further info.....
All the settings I had on my XT Live are still viewable in Gearbox even with nothing plugged in. That gives me a starting point and I can get close to previous settings but it's all manual tweaking.
I put off upgrading to the HD series because it looked like a completely different operation system than the X3 and I was going on a long tour. I had to buy one of the last "new" X3 Lives out there to have a backup and sure enough, one blew up when it got the wrong power overseas.
I realize that Line6 had some bigger-and-better amp models and all software/hardare developers come to a point where they can't make everything backwards comptable, but it still surprises me that ypu can't load old patches with some kind of convertion. WOW!
It also surprises me that they didn't include all of the older "low-res" amp simulations just to have them available. I'm no software engineer, but it doesn't make sense. Right now I'm glad that I didn't upgrade before the tour, but dissappointed that the other features of the X3 series didn't make it into the HD500, like mic-pre and bass amp models. Especially since they discontinued the X3 series and you can't buy them new anymore. I've owned the original POD, the XT series and the X3 series, and now I'm in no hurry to get an HD except I need a backup on the road. Kinda Sucks!

the same amps and effects do not exist for hd and x3... so conversion would be a total guess.. which leaves you tweaking to taste... from somewhere most likely far far from your starting point... even the amp models that share the same basis between the 2 units was completely redone with different goals etc...
bottom line, no conversion would have sounded the same anyway...
the XT low res pack, is an interesting idea, but even then you'd not have the same style of dual tone implementation... nor the same x-series limitations...
would be cool...
not sure how it would come out though, because the internal resolutions of the hd etc... would have re-sampled/up-sampled etc... and the result would have been a difference in sound....
basically you'd be doing alot of adjustments either way... so why not get an HD and start with that anyway? <--(rhetorical)
certainly agree that some of the x-series features etc are missed.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
