Questions Re.: Using the XD-V30L with a Headset Mic

I have several very nice headset/sax mics which were designed to be used with the AKG WMS40 Pro wireless systems. These have TA3F connectors at the end of the wire. I would like to use these with my new Line 6 XD-V30L and TBP06. As far as I can tell, the TBP06 that comes with the XD-V30L is different from the one that comes with the Relay G30 (I own two of those as well) in that the one that comes with the XD-V30L appears to be a TRS, and the one that comes with the Relay G30 is a TS. Please correct me if I am wrong on this.
I have tried several adapters and cables from reputable vendors, but none of these have worked.
I am now working with a vendor to build a connector that will be guaranteed to work (if that is at possible).
They need to know what the pinouts are for the TBP06 that comes with the XD-V30L. I have already obtained the pinouts for the AKG HT40 from their site.
Any information you can provide would be tremendously helpful.
BTW, if this is not possible, I would like to know if it is possible to purchase just the headset from the XD-V30HS (assuming it is compatible with my XD-V30L system).
Thank You.
Short answer .... buy the V30HS headset as a single item. Modifying other mics may involve adding circuitry.
I don't know the price yet, but they will be released tomorrow so check with your dealer in a couple of days.
the pinout is:
tip = signal
ring = V+
ground = return/shield
most mics will require a pull-up resistor and a DC blocking cap be added.
Alternately you could buy a G50/XD-V70 bodypack and adapt your existing mics (probably with standard adaptors ... although I don't like using adaptors personally.
Thanks for the quick reply, dboomer. I appreciate your input and may just take your advice and buy a Line 6 headset now that they're available
.
I hope it's not a breach of forum conduct to ask that this topic remain open for just a little while longer as I may just have my vendor make the cable anyway, and try to make the Guiness World Book of Records for the "most times hitting your head against the wall". ![]()
Seriously, it might work...
so can you explain to me why the xd-v30l has a 1/4" TRS connector that as far as I know NO ONE ON THE PLANET USES!? Seeing as I just bought 2 of these units for my church... cause we had to do away with our amazing Shure UHF 700mhz wireless.... now we get these crappy line 6 packs that can only use the crappy microphone that comes with it? and not even be able to relegate it to the guitarist for his wireless!!! I mean seriously guys what were you thinking?
I mean, we bought a couple of the xd-v70 mics and those were cool... the xd-v30 Handhelds... uh, not as much... they put out like half of the signal that our 'cheapo' shure pgx series handhelds... but now you've gone too cheap and lost the rest of our business... and by the way we are returning our 30L's and will be returning our business to shure...
Certainly ... the TRS connector is far more reliable than the 1/8" mini and keeps the cost down compared to the TA4 connector. And you guitar player can plug directly into it without having to make gain and pad adjustments like you would have to with other brands.
What exactly is amazing about the Shure units? With the exception of channel count, the V30 and V70 beat it for reliability, extended frequency response, lower distortion, better dynamic range, battery metering, interconectivity of antennas, you name it (and there's no compander circuit degrading the sound quality). Plus ... they are future proof and will not be affected by new FCC rule changes, white space devices, safe harbor geo-located channels and Super Wi-Fi.
As far as output level ... the output of a V30 handheld transmitter is exactly the same as a wired SM58 (which it models). You've simply mis-adjusted the gain structure.
I appreciate your perspective... i had to return the v30l's mostly because my church couldn't use them with their countryman and countryman doesn't make a trs connector for it... sorry...
I do have a serious issue with our V70 handhelds though... we have 10 of the units and they are 90' from the stage with clear line of sight 6' over heads and no obstructions... they are less than 2 weeks old and 4 of the units have started exibiting some strange behavior... they have this digital "click" that pops through the receiver intermittantly... it is incredibly loud and annoying and when I change to a different handheld unit on that channel and turn the original off it doesn't do it anymore... but we now have 4 handheld units that we can't use....
any ideas to what might be going on with our new wireless???
Thanks
George
Countryman can provide their mics wired for Line 6 XD-V30 and XD-V70. Here's a link to V30L ... http://www.countryman.com/images/wiring/b3_l3.png
Hey George
I suspect the problem is in the transmitter itself. The only time I've ever experienced anything like this is when the mic capsule becomes unscrewed. It will make a big bang if you try to reconnect it while it is powered up. I'd try unscrewing and then reconnecting the capsules. I'd also take a look for anything that looks like it could be wrong. Try pushing each of the pogo pins to make sure that they have not become bent or sticking.
OTOH ... if you have units that do work and some that don't it could be a hardware issue.
With 10 systems you should connect them up in strings of 5 units with the built-in antenna distros, using the supplied LMR-195 conecting cables and be sure to use the terminators on the last units.
FYI if we can't resolve this issue immediately I will be returning ALL 10 units and getting some sennheisers! The ew135 wireless units are actually cheaper than the xd-v70s... so a no brainer.
Hello Everyone. I see that the direction of my original post has gone elsewhere, but I thought I should at least report that I was able to successfully get an adapter made that allows me to connect my old AKG wireless headsets, sax mic and everything else with a mini-XLR (TA3F) connector to talk to my TBP06 transmitter. Note that this only works with the TBP06 that comes with the XD-V30L (stereo TRS input) and not with the TBP06 that comes with the Relay G30 (mono TS input).
If anyone is interested in getting help finding a similar adapter, please send an e-mail to info@ambientband.com.
Cheers,
