Hughes & Kettner Red Box to POD Studio GX no sound ?

Hi,

I have a Hughes & Kettner Triamp MKII with a built in Red box. The red box essentially is used for cab simulation that helps us avoid micing issues. The red box has an XLR DI Out connection out

with

Pin Designation

1 = GND,

2 = +

3 = -

However for the life of me I cannot get a signal out of the amp into my POD studio GX. The main reason I bought the GX was soley to get a signal out of the red box.  (marked up to AUD$169 even 2 years after its release in Australia).

I haven't received any sufficient Hughes & Kettner support regarding the red box either.

Could you tell me how I could get a signal from my amp head to my laptop? The red box is supposedly powered when the amp is connected to the mains. The signal goes straight into my POD GX using an XLR to jack cable. Is there something I'm missing?

If I could any help at all - I'd be highly appreciative.

Thanks in advance,

Tanjim

    Hey Tanjim,

      The problem seems to be that your red box is not getting any power. The TonePort GX does not offer phantom power, which the red box is designed to run off. Although it is operational using a 9V battery or power supply. From the red box manual:

    The Red Box is connected, but no signal is routed

      to the Balanced Out jack:

      • The Red Box is not receiving power. Insert a

      9V block battery, plug in the proper adapter, or

      switch the mixer desk‘s phantom power on.

      • You are using an unbalanced plug adaptor. Its

      pin assignments do not match the Balanced

      Out jack‘s.

      Make sure that you are also plugging in in a cable to your speakers inputs from the red box, so that you do not damage your amp head. Then run the balanced outs to your TonePort GX.

      Hope this helps.
