Cannot calibrate foot pedal on my HD300 - No toe switch

Out of the box and after the 1.20 update my footswitch needed only to be 1/4 of the way down to be fully on, so I held Channel D down on power up.  Now I am stuck on the screen that says HOLD TOE SWITCH because there is no mechanical switch connection that could possibly take place on this unit.  The metal tab under the pedal stops nearly a quarter of an inch from the little metal plate that is exposed on the body of the unit.  I am EXTREMELY disappointed in this discovery.  Where these units supposed to be proximity sensors or actual mechanical switches?  I can press my finger to the metal plate on the body but feel no switching, and the display still reads hold toe switch after 30 seconds of me pressing that spot with my finger.  Does my unit need to be refurbished? I JUST PURCHASED THIS AND IT WAS THE LAST ONE IN STOCK!

The switch itself is inside the unit.  You will need to stand on the toe down position of your pedal quite hard to make the switch work.  The 'rod' that presses down on the switch inside your unit may not be at the toe position on the underside of the expression pedal - in fact it's probably about a third of the length of the pedal back from the toe end.  You cannot see the switch itself without taking the unit apart, but I don't recommend you do that.

After looking at it again I did notice the rod closer to the hinge on the underside of the pedal.  I held my breath, put all my weight into the pedal and rocked it hard and heard the click.  I now have a full working range with the pedal. I don't think that I will be utilizing that toe switch too often for my presets, it is quite stubborn!  Thanks for the reply!

The new ones always are real tough and need working in. Many folks have had the same kind of problems but it turns out they just needed to push a little harder to losen it up.

Don't just not use it cos it's tough, work it in and it will work perfectly in no time at all.
