    7) Whatever EVH used on Van Halen 1

It was just a Marshall 1959 with everything on 10 plugged into a variac with the voltage lowered to about 90V and a dummy load so that it was used as a preamp.  There's absolutely noting special about the amp other than that.  The rest of the tone came from his a Charvel with a maple neck and whatever pickup he uses, his speaker cab (driven by a solid state power amp) and most importantly, Ed's fingers.

Re: POD HD 500 - New amps

More amps we gotta have, just because...

    5W Fender 5C1 Champ        6SJ7>6V6

    5W Fender 5E1 Champ        12ax7>6V6

18W Marshall 1974              Same amp as Watkins Dominator, except for 1x12 G12H30w basscone or 2x12 G12M 20w Greenbacks instead of 2x10 15w ELAC's of the Dominator.

18W Orange AD15               5AR4 recto instead of EZ81 = far more sag factor (far more sag than Orange AD30 and TC30 using the same 5AR4 recto); adds TMB tone stack and MV control to above Wattkins/Marshall tones; 10" Jensen P10r and 12" Celestion Vintage 30 combo cab versions.   Personally, I like this amp best with MV dimed.   Big thumbs up!

    30w Fender '46 Woody Pro  6SJ7>6SN7(PI)>6L6(x2)

Sunn PA 2000                     12ax7>6AN8>12ax7(PI)>6550(x4)  Think Leslie West  Mountain     -  sweet harmonics and chime from the preamp pentode, sorta fugly overdrive grind too, but that's the power tube's signature!

    more to follow.

    Gil...

    Peavey Pack©

    VTM 60/120

    Classic 50 (+410 open and 212 cabs)

    Supreme 160 (+412MS cab with Sheffield 1290s)

Rockmaster preamp + Classic 60/60 power amp

    Ultra Plus

    5150

    6505+

    JSX

Also a JC120 and SLO would be cool. I never have and likely never will play any of the amps in the POD HD now so more is like free money to me. I would like a range of classic Peavey tones, since I am used to working with Peaveys (read: I am eternally broke )

That depends on who you believe... lots of info on that amp on that internet, I tell you.

Here's one sentence that says it all: "It's been claimed widely that Eddie Van Halen's #1 Marshall amplifier         has either been both completely stock or slightly/heavily modded."

Also, the idea that it was used as a preamp, or as one site puts it " It had a transformer-coupled         line out that was used to create a line out signal, which was then run         into another Marshall amp's input. Basically it uses the first amp like         a tube stompbox, and getting increased distortion, feedback, and gain         that way", would make the amp pretty difficult to replicate with the audio chain in the HD. Although, with TWO HDs...

Park with no cab from the first HD into Park on second HD is a possible starting point...

Or L6 could just come up with a custom original amp that replicates this .

Judging by the request for new amps i think Line 6 would take a look at this forum and say two many requests

so maybe we should set a a voting pole with say 6 most requested amps and let the public decide and that way Line 6 might take us more seriously.

I want that amp pack too, and more, but free like the updates of the AXE-FX.

Axe/Fx is giving me free amp models? Awesome... wait, I have to spend how much money to use them?

    Nothing is ever "free".

That said, can't wait for HD firmware 1.3 update!

I think L6 will pay more attention if eveyrone submits a feature request for whichever amp they would like to see modeled in the HD.

    I have already submitted mine

Do your ears tell you that his tone is voiced through a second preamp and tone stack?

    Mine don't.

I have never plugged a Jose modded vintage marshall Super Lead with a transformer coupled line out into another Marshall... so are you saying when you tried this it sounded different than Ed's version? I have read all of Jose's modded amps sounded different so I am not really surprised.

My ears tell me it doesn't sound like any normal 1959 Marshall.

And who knows, maybe the "input" used was an effects return. I wasn't there but I would love to hear from anyone here who was

I am pretty sure there were some mods to the amp done by Jose Arredondo, exactly what these mods were is the subject of much debate and speculation and will probably always be an unsolved mystery.

I do know that type of distortion does not come from your fingers...

I don't know, just a guess that would seem to make sense based on what people who allegedly were there have written... I wasn't there, how about you?

I just noticed you wrote the amp  was a Marshall with  "a dummy load so that it was used as a preamp"... do you reckon they plugged that preamp straight into the board and recorded it, or ran it through an amp of some sort and mic'ed the speakers?
