ALTERNATIVE HEADSET MIC FOR XD-V70HS

Hi all, I have a XD-V70HS which I used for the first time last Saturday and it worked perfectly, however, the LM-4 headset mic that came with the system is absolute rubbish and I shall never use it again. I bought the XD-V70HS to replace a Beyerdynamic Opus 300 system that I have been using for a number of years without complaint but will soon become illegal here in the UK. The Beyer system uses an Opus 54.18 headset mic, I have attached a screen shot of the pin connections. My question is, can I use this mic, I have 2 of them, with the XD-V70HS. If so what are the pin connections in the TA4F connector. If it is not possible to use this headset mic, would I be able to use a Shure WH20TQG with no problems? Are there any suggestions for a good headset mic to use? I would like to get as close as possible to the sound of an SM58 to match the other vocal mics in the band.
The existing pinout will not work. The Line 6 pinout is shown in out FAQ (http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-1957) and advanced Owner Guide. Also the sensitivity of this mic is low compared to the factory supplied mic. You may wish to add a pull-up resistor depending on how loud your singer is.
Thanks for that. What value of resistor and what pins would I put it on. Also, what about the Shure WH20TQG, would this work straight out of the box. I know it's low gain but I can always increase the gain on the mixer.
I have not had good luck with the WH20 ... output too low in my opinion. It depends on how loud and close your singer is. I also don't care for the sound.
Somewhere between 5k-10k for the pullup resistor. Put it in series with the wire going to pin 2 (bias).
Try just adjusting the mixer first. You may have no issues at all ... it just depends.
I'll take your recomendation not to use the shure. I don't want to appear dense, but which wire is the signal and which wire is the + volts on the beyer mic? I'd assume that the red wire is signal and the white wire is + volts or am I totally wrong?
Hi, it's OK I've sussed it out. I was wrong. Red is + volts and the white is signal +.
Many thanks.
Hey tcorder,
You are very welcome, glad to see that you got the re-wiring issues figured out.
Thanks again to the all knowing dboomer.
I am considering ordering an XD-V70HS from Sweetwater and would like to know if the system will work with a Crown CM-311AESH headset (this is the version of the headset suitable for connecting to a Shure beltpack transmitter).
Thanks for your help.
Yes ... the version wired for Shure will work with the XD-V70 system
