Why my new pod HD500, it sounds so horrible?

I put two samples of how bad my podhd500 sounds. I would like to give me advice on how to make it sound at least as my old pod x3 pro.

I notice that sounds like a toy and poorly defined. And sometimes it resets itself.Especially when I have it connected via usb.

The tones in your first post are very different from that of your second.  In the first posts you have what sounds like a mid-gain amp and various effects.  In the second, it sounds like a brighter high gain model with flanger and lots of reverb.   It is difficult to compare the two.

Your setup seems pretty simple so a few suggestions:

      -  Check your output mode.  For your setup it should be Studio/Direct.

      -  Make sure you are on the latest firmware (currently 1.31) as there were a few tonal problems in some of the earlier releases.

      -  If you are using the 'stock'patches' build your own from scratch.  Try using a higher gain amp like the Engl (Angel) or the Line 6 Model.

      -  Make sure you are using Full amp models not the Preamps 'Pre' as they will not work well in the configuration you describe.

      -  Play with the cabinet models for the amp you choose.  They can make a really big difference to the basic tone.

      -  Apply the FX after you have created the model, distortions/wah/compressors  before the amp model, delays/reverbs/flange/chorus/phase after (this is not a hard rule but is typical)

      -  If you cannot get what you want from the high gain models, try a lower gain one (J800) with the gain backed off a little and a Distortion Effect in front.

You may already do some or all of this.

I guess it depends on what it is you're trying to achieve.

you say you want it to sound like your old POD X3, but the POD HD has totally different amp models.

let's dial this back a little.  dial in your own tones, and start with just an amp model.  what is the amp in the X3 Pro you're trying to sound like?  it sounds like the MS-Criminal to me (I love that amp model).  on the POD HD try the recto model, and in the DEPs turn sag and hum down to make the amp model more sterile.

Something I've found is that the previous POD amp models weren't very dynamic, and they were very good for metal, because their lack of dynamics sounded like high gain solid state amp models in some cases (i'm talking about the gain models)...  the POD HD amp models are very dynamic (just like the real life things) and not always like the super compressed things you hear on produced CDs, which of course we all try to sound like.  And that's fine, I do that too... but with the POD HD you may need to dial out some of the realism and tweak your tones from scratch to get what it is you're after, and the DEPs can help you there.

basically for me, I never compare presets, as although some of them are great, some of them just don't sound how I personally want my tones to sound.  it's also got to do with your guitar, pickups, style of playing, amplifier or speakers, and the room you're playing in.  and your ears.  everyone is different, and so tweaking tones is sometimes necessary.  start without extra FX, and just look at comparing 2 similar amp models.  get that right and then layer FX on top of it after.  if you stick FX on too soon while you're trying to tweak, it can sometimes become a huge mess and be hard to get it right.

check out the manuals too, if you need help understanding how to tweak your PODs: http://line6.com/support/manuals/

Let us know how you get on

Your second post sounds like a preset off the POD X3?  Van Halen "brown" sound, phaser, delays etc...

You'll probably find a similar type factory preset on the POD HD - although it may not be exactly the same.

But the tones your playing in your first post (POD HD500) sound more like #1 Blues Crunch - SRV or something. #2 A fairly convincing David Gilmour tone (for Comfortably Numb anyway).  So they don't sound BAD - just not suited to the kind of stuff you are playing in the second post.

Oh... and by the way... when using "Harmonised" patches (Master of Puppets patch for Comfortably Numb).  Remember to change the KEY of the harmoniser to the song you're playing to  .  This will help the tone sit better.

For Comfortably Numb -  B minor or D Major.
