HD 500 and use of headphones. My Solution.

OK, this is course is limited by my resources but from reading the forum and discussions on use of Headphones with HD500 and comparing with amps & the DT50 (and I assume the DT25) that the Headphones always come short. I checked this out from my experience hooking up my headphones to the HD500 and trying to compare it to the DT50 I just purchased. Well my observation seems to suggest that there is just a problem of power to the headphones. I pulled out my Rolls "Personal Monitor Amp" and plugged the Headphone out on the HD500 to my "Monitor input" and put my headphones (Sennheiser HD 280 Pro) in the Headphone jack and set my Monitor Level on my Rolls and Walla! I did have to adjust the volume on the HD500 and my Personal Monitor. I turned on my amp and compared the headphones to it. I was please with the results of my experiment. It can do a pretty decent amp modeling and adjustments roughly to my DT50 or at least fine tune it on my DT50 later. Well, I hope this helps those who want to get the tone they want in their own private headphone space.

If anyone reads this and wants to try it, I would like to know your results.
Interesting theory. I have no external power source to try this with (yet), but I will follow this to see how it works for other folks.
Walla!!!
..... Voila!!!
It is interesting how bad the headphone sound is from the HD500. I have a PodXT that is wayyy better.
So what I do is use the headphone output from my amp, which is connected to the HD500 with the 4 cable method. My amp, the Blackstar HT-5R , is a great fit for practice and home applications. The headphone/audio out has a selectable cabinet emulation and an mp3 input for backing tracks. This amp rocks!
I just did the update recently and I must say the sound on the headphones sound a lot better. I can't complain about the quality any longer. Does anyone have the same situation??
Very surprised to read that anyone is stating the following...
I have not had this problem and find both the tone and volume more than loud enough and very accurate to what the entire "Dream Rig" sounds like. It's not 100% exact, but it's certainly close enough that I included the use of headphones as a crucial part of my Start-Up guide for the HD500 unit.
Take care,
Neal
I have no problem with using the HD500 over my Headphones (Sennheiser HD280 Pro) nor with the output volume. Never had to dial the master knob over 12 o clock.
Soundwise I'd say I have the opposite Problem. When making my sounds with the headphones I don't get even close when plugin into my atomic amp.
Tried this only once though.

Hi,
thanks for the link - I will read the article when I have time. My headphones sound great though, The problem I have that the patches I create with the headphones ands sound great with headphones don't sound as good when playing through the amp.
