Gearbox, Podx3 Live & JTV-69

I have been using Gearbox to program interface between my Podx3 Live and a Variax 700 using the digital interface cable. I program Podx3 amp/effects patches and a particular guitar into the patch, save into a particular bank/channel, press the channel and presto I have my guitar/amp patch. I use this to jump from acousitc to electric guitars, rythm to lead patches, etc. Just got my new JTV-69. No matter what I've tried, the JTV does not recognize the programmed guitar model within the patches. Has any experienced the same issue? Am I missing some new setting or mode I must be in?
I have an X3L, a Variax 700 and a JTV59. I have my X3L patches programmed to automatically change patches on my Variax 700.
When I connected my JTV59 to my X3L with the VDI cable, I noticed that it would not change the guitar models with the patches, and when I reviewed the input settings I noticed that it had reverted back to DONT FORCE MODEL but that it did indicate it was connected to a JTV59 rather than a Variax 700.
So, I simply changed the setting to Variax Control on the X3L, dialled in the correct model on my JTV59 and re-saved the patch on the X3L. Then when I swapped to that X3L patch, it also swapped my JTV59 model.
I then disconnected my JTV59, and re-connected my Variax 700, and discovered that the X3L still recalled the Variax 700 model setting for that patch.
So - the X3L actually stores and recalls BOTH Variax 700 and JTV50 model settings for each patch.
The only annoyance is you actually have to go through every X3L patch you use and set up the JTV59 model selection and save the patch again. But it can be done very quickly - and once its done you don't need to do it again - so not too bad at all.
Cheers

Eddie, Thanks for taking the time to explain how to get the x3L to see the JTV. I got it to work from your description. The only negative that I have to say is that x3L is not able to automatically see or switch JTV models without manually setting input. It can do all other models, just not the JTV. Also Gearbox can't track JTV model changes, again it can see all other models through the xtL or x3L. I called Line6 and spoke with Hugo (he was great) on this. He explained that this is legacy equipment and sftwr which I understand but I think Line6 missed the mark on this. I love the company, products, support and have owned all Pods and guitars. I still love the x3L and can't afford to keep buying the latest greatest. What would it have taken to update Gearbox to see the JTV? I may be wrong but wasn't the JTV released before the HD models came out? I ordered my JTV-69US in Aug 2010.
Sorry, just need to vent a little. Hugo told me he would put in a request ticket on this. Not sure if a lot of users control the Pod models using Gearbox but once you try it, it is a great tool. It's extremely useful for taking a library of saved patched and dragging/dropping them directly into bank/ch, then manipulate any way you want all from the laptop. I use banks for particular styles of music (classic rock, jazz, metal etc) or just to line up guitar patches (acousic, rhythm, feature, lead, etc) for each song in my sets. Gearbox is a very useful, time-saving, control application. I guess for now I will have to drop in patches, manipulate amps/effect, save to x3L; and then additionally program input to JTV on the x3L. Also If you manually copy the patch to another bank/ch location, it doesn't transfer the JTV input either. Got to do set input again! It really shouldn't be that difficult to change the sftwr in x3l/Gearbox to recognize the JTV. Please LIne6 guys just one more sftwr patch for us VDI guys????
The only way Line6 would make any changes is if it was easy enough and there enough of us chiming in with the same request. Any more guys out there that use or plan to use JTV with x3L and/or Gearbox using VDI?
Eddie, thanks again for taking the time to answer my original question.
John
I hear you John.
I didn't realise that the X3L does not copy the JTV patch info if you copy a patch, and unfortunately I don't use Gearbox very often, so I also didn't realise that the JTV info was not recognised in that - although I thought it allowed the choice of input channel for the JTV (CH1, CH2) but I may be wrong on that.
I agree with your sentiments and think that while they were updating the X3L firmware to support the JTV that they could have made sure it supported it full (eg: copying the info) and that they should have updated Gearbox to keep it in step as that is the main tool for X3L users. I can't imagine that it is a huge change so would not cost them much but the pay off from good will and satisfied customers would be immense and far outweigh any cost.
Lets hope they make the change soon!
Best Regards
Eddie
