Trouble with GearBox programming X3 Live to set JTV Preset model

Hi Folks - new to this forum. I looked around for an answer to this, but couldn't find anything...

My trouble is this: I have an X3 Live and JTV-69. I am trying to enable the patch changes using GearBox 3.72.0 to switch the JTV Guitar Model, but having trouble. I have enabled Global Control and am able to set the Variax model for a patch directly from the X3 Live. But, When I try to do this from GearBox, it actually changes the model to "DONT FORCE MODEL", despite the fact I have selected a valid model in the drop down in the Variax pane in GearBox.

I would be OK with setting the Variax model manually using the X3 Live, but whenever I write a patch, it resets the model to "DONT FORCE MODEL". Kind of a pain!

Any thoughts?

We hadn't heard of this until your thread posting; Hugo and I were able to confirm this behavior.

GearBox 3.72 was released prior to the release of the JTV guitars; in your particular case GearBox is the required software editor for use with a POD X3 Live/Pro units. The current workaround would be to not have GearBox running while re-assigning and saving your desired JTV model associations to whatever X3L patches.

We're logging a bug for this and adding this finding to the JTV Knowledge Base Documentat: http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-2265. Sorry about the inconvenience regarding the GearBox software behavior.

It was great that you pointed this out two years ago and that Line6 posted a notice about it with an inconvenient workaround a year-and-a-half ago.  Still, it seems an awfully long time for there to be no software patch fix.  Is this what I can expect from Line6 support?  I love my new JTV-59, but this is an unnecessary pain

there is no active development for the x-series....there will never be a patch.

... other than buying an HD pod....

and yes... this is what you can expect from line6 or any other manufacturer when it comes to equipment 7+ years old.

" this is what you can expect from line6 or any other manufacturer when it comes to equipment 7+ years old."

I understand that but when "fully compatible" is mentioned as part of the reason to buy something then you need to spend whatever time it takes to fix what, in this case, appears to be a relatively simple problem.  They've promised stuff before and then "forgotten" about it.  Variax bass/Workbench compatibility is one that still sticks in my craw since it was a large reason why I purchased a Variax bass (there is no compatibility).  They need to stop that bull**** and fulfill the things they say they will be giving us.  It's a matter of integrity and honor.  Not that they have to.  Yes you can make the JTVariax work with the X3 after jumping through several hoops but I did all of my patch building through Gearbox and it was partly because of the promised compatibility that I purchased one.
