Mobile In and iPOD Touch

Hi

How comw Mobile In doesn't work with the latest generation of the iPOD Touch? I downloaded the app last night from iTunes but there was an incompatibility message when running the app.

Thanks

From the Mobile In product FAQ:

What Apple® devices are compatible with Mobile In and Mobile POD app?

Mobile In and Mobile POD app are compatible with iPhone® 4, iPad® 2 and iPad®.

Re: RE: Mobile In and iPOD Touch

      That is REALLY unfortunate,

You just lost a LOT of clients.... because I won't buy an iPhone just to use the Mobile in

I'll look at other alternatives then..

Really unfortunate because I like Line 6 (having a Pod XT and still using it regularly) and was looking forward to buy this so I could practise on my lunch hour without having to carry a complicated setup...

(and no I don't want the pocket Pod...) already have an iPod touch and was thrilled that I could be using it for practice...

Guess I'll go with the IK iRig then.

Seriously, I think that Line6 dropped the ball on that one.

Re: RE: Mobile In and iPOD Touch

Do you know if it's  an unfixed bug or a technical incompatibility please ?

There is not much differences between an iPod 4G and an iPhone 4 ...

May be a future update from apple or Line6 ?

      Thank you for your answer

I got roped into the same problem. this is totally unexceptable! I have to drive 35 miles to take mine back to guitar center.  the company that claims they are the first in modeling dropped the ball. I believe they got alittle worried that ipad was and is stealing their thunder so they jumped on the band wagon,

Re: Mobile In and iPOD Touch

I just got around to plugging in the Mobile In I got for Christmas.  What a pleasant (sarcasm) suprise to find out it doesn't work with the IPod Touch.  I wouldn't be so angry if this was the norm, but it isn't.  I've tried two of your competitors guitar interfaces and they both worked fine on my IPod Touch.  I've got 3 folders of guitar related apps that all work fine as well.  Compatibility isn't typically an issue that Touch owners worry about, especially in a product unrelated to phone usage.

I realize that Line6 has covered themselves by not mentioning the Touch in their compatibility documents.  But why not just say 'DOES NOT WORK WITH THE IPOD TOUCH'?

What ********! I spent an entire afternoon choosing what I thought would be the best tool to connect my guitar to my iPod Touch. NOWHERE did I see anything that said "DOES NOT WORK WITH THE IPOD TOUCH". Does Line6 think it's going to create good press and happy customers by "neglecting to mention" a major flaw in the product? Give me a break!

Re: Mobile In and iPOD Touch

    Hi all --

If I could just jump in here, I'm the product manager for Line 6 mobile products, so maybe I can shed a little light on the problem.  We're very sorry to disappoint iPod touch owners interested in Mobile In, but unfortunately this is out of Line 6's control.

First off, there are no digital audio interfaces that work with all models of iPod, iPhone, and iPad, because different Apple models support different I/O technologies. So before you buy, you have to be sure the interface you want will work with your particular model.  That's just how the iOS accessories world works.  We take a lot of care to clearly indicate which iDevice models each of our mobile products works with, in fact we proudly display the Apple 'Made for iPhone - iPad' logo (and actually we thought that was pretty clear at the time).

Second, Mobile In is a digital audio device with an input, and no output.  It turns out that none of the iPod touch models support the use of such interfaces, including not just the Line 6 Mobile In, but also the Apogee Jam and the Griffin GuitarConnect Pro.  (You can verify lack of iPod touch support over at their websites.)  So it's not just us.

Third, you folks are absolutely correct in saying that there are a number of other interfaces that do work with iPod touch.  Just keep in mind that they're all either analog inputs which have much lower quality, or else digital interfaces that include both audio in and audio out, which are more expensive products.  So there's nothing directly comparable to Mobile In that does work with iPod touch.

Again: We're really sorry there were some misinderstandings.  We would definitely make Mobile In support iPod touch, if only we could.  While we can't specifically comment on future products, please know we're very aware that a lot of iPod touch owners are interested in POD processing.  Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions about any of this.

Re: Mobile In and iPOD Touch

      Hi Chris,

I know that this is limitation in the iPod itself, not the Line6 product.  But can I ask, have you guys had any discussions with Apple about them lifting this restriction? I'd have to assume that it would be something they could do with an IOS update.  I can't believe that the hardware itself (related to audio) is all that different from the iPhone, which obviously supports interfaces without outputs. I would think that some collective nudging from the industry (Line6, Apogee, Griffin) could get some response.

      Thanks,
      Chris

Re: Mobile In and iPOD Touch

I've just tried to connect the mobile-in device with the 5th gen iPod touch using the 'lighting to 30 pin' adapter. Surprisingly, it is worked within the 'mobile-in' app. Good to see my favorite guitar gear worked with the new technology. Just share it, thank.

      Hi, "chakjoe7".

I bought the Mobile In device after your post and confirmed that it worked fine on my iPod touch 5 with the lightning to 30 pin adaptor (0.2m).

I was shocked because the price of the adaptor was almost 50% of the device...

      Anyway, now I feel fine.

      Thanks.
