Variax TRS Cable

After, rather foolishly, selling my Variax 700 last year, (unintentionally to a Line 6 UK employee) when it developed a fault, instead of having it repaired, I recently bought a 500 on eBay.
It came in the case with the manual, power supply and the XPS box but no TRS cable. It works fine on batteries.
Although I never had to replace the cable in the 6 years I had my 700, I remember reading it was a standard 15ft TRS cable.
I thought I'll Google Variax TRS cable, which in the UK, yeilds very little. It would appear Planet Waves have discontinued making it.
So, I bought an unbranded but good quality TRS cable.
When I plugged it in and connected the power supply, only the red light came on (the 1/4" light was green). I remember the light should be green.
All my amps are at my rehearsal studio, so I don't know for certain there was no sound but I'm concerned I may have done some damage to the guitar.
Does anyone know why a standard TRS cable (5 metre to be exact) would not power it up properly or know where to get hold of the correct Planet Waves cable, in the UK?
Thanks.
any stereo cable should work but i believe the planet waves on or the stock one from line 6 is a snuger fit if you test the cable for continuity and it passes it could be a bad plug inthe guitar or the xps
Hmmm . . . I'm actually having a similar issue with my VAX 300. My cat ate the Planet Waves TRS cable that came with my VAX. I noticed that it had expanders on the barrel to insure a snug fit in the jack.
Now, it works fine with the VDI, and on batteries, but I have intermittent power problems with a standard TRS cable. Maybe the plug isn't fitting in snugly enough?
They have the Planet Waves cable in the Line 6 store. Maybe I'll try ordering a new one!
