JTV 69 Body Ridges

My Black JTV 69 arrived in September last year with perfectly flat finish on the top, but about mid-January I noticed two distinct ridges in the finish that look like movement of the laminated body pieces.  The sales rep at Long@McQuade had a look and thinks "its a bit dry" due to winter weather.    I'm not sure he's correct....my house is newer construction with humidity controlling ventilation and A/C heating.  The Variax 300, 30yr old Vantage and two acoustics that hang in the same spot have never had these issues.

     My questions:

is this kind of thing covered by the "wood" section of the warranty.   (it had better be)

can I expect it to settle back with age,  (probably not)

or is this a symptom of a structural fault.   (???? you be the judge)

I wasn't able to get a photo that shows it clearly, but to the eye its quite obvious.

Anyone else out there notice the same thing?

Update:  I'm going to take guitar back to the store today for return or replacement...here is a pic of the electronics cover plate on the back which is bowed up due to the deformation of the body,

....and the lines in the finish are now apparent on the back of the body right up to the neck mount holes.   Yuck.

Hi Chris... looking at those two pictures (in particular the lower one), there's definitely a problem with that guitar. In Canada, please get your instrument back to the Long & McQuade that you bought it from and they will be able to help with an exchange or whatever you communicate to them. Sorry about the inconvenience.

    Hi,

This is strange... I haven't seen any instruments blemished this bad out of the box... Here is the number for the Canadian Distributor:

    SF Marketing, Inc.
       Servicing: Electronics, Guitars
    325 Boul. Bouchard
    Dorval, Quebec
    H9S 1A9
    514-780-2070 (phone)
    stevec@sfm.ca

Please get in contact with them and they should be able to help. Can you post pics of the second guitar?

    Thanks,

    David

    Hi,

I'm sure that SF Marketing will provide a guitar that does not have these cosmetic issues. Sorry for the shape of the instruments. I feel like you are in good hands with Long&McQuade and SF Marketing and the issue should be resolved shortly. I will keep an eye out for issues like this in the future. I am opening a ticket with you. Please respond directly and let me know the condition of the next replacement.

I created a support ticket for you so we can resolve this issue. Please respond to the ticket. Thanks.

Q: What is a support ticket?

    Re: JTV 69 Body Ridges

This is very interesting.  My Black JTV-69, which was purchased in December 2011 has these issues now.  I did not notice these lines and grooves in the finish when I received the guitar.  Believe me, I inspected the guitar closely when I got it.  Well, after not playing it for about a month I have discovered lines and grooves in the paint finish that run along the length of the body - both front and back.  The electronics cover on the back is also bowing upwards.

This is unacceptible for the price of these guitars.  I am officially requesting a service ticket.  Btw, I purchased mine at Long & McQuade, Waterloo.  Serial# W11080164

        Chris,

Yes I did receive the correct tremolo arm with mine.  It did take me a while to notice the threads and that it screws in, though. :-)

I have had no issues with the guitar other than some volume issues early on.  I adjusted the string volume and that fixed it for me.  I'ts definitely louder than my Variax 500 and my other guitars.

I would love to trade in just the body because the neck is perfect on the one I have and I'm afraid of getting a less than perfect replacement.

Are my ridges as bad or worse than the ones you had?

        JD
