I see that on the News page that there is a new firmware for HD POD. This time it is for the complete line of HD PODs it looks like. I am anctiously awaiting the update for my HD400.
nobody knows.
Nobody knows and you are not the first to start a thread asking......we all want it sooner than later, but hopefully it won't be released until it is ready!!
At some point though it would be nice for them to give some sort of idea of where they are with it. Personally, I will just keep being happy with what I have, but when you announce a bunch of exciting features and say coming soon, you can only expect so much patience before people want an update. Also one of the typical things to say is that we don't want it released until it is ready. Well, honestly I haven't seen anyone in any of these threads suggest they can't wait for it. People just want to have an idea of when it might be coming out. IMO, it wouldn't kill them to post a message here saying something like "We still have a ways to go and things may change, but at this point we are shooting for the beginning of Q2" or "We have a couple issues that could push it out. We are hoping to have it ready by the end of February, but that is still a rough date". Then you don't have people checking monkey every day for the next 2 months to see if there is an update. You will never stop most unreasonable people from complaining, but you can at least satisfy most people with some disclaimed communication.
As I said, I am not in any hurry, but marketing/customer relations wise, this is just my opinion.

There'll be a big announcement on the front page, on the forum and even an email to tell us when the update is, no need to launch Monkey every day. Or maybe even that's too much hardship for the spoilt generation?

Have to disagree. If they say "End of Feb" and then it actually turns out to be the end of March, what's the betting there'd be all-out moaning about the delay, "Why'd you tell us it was gonna be February? Bogus." Sorry but that's all I see on the internet these days.
So let me ask you this...If you announce a feature and say it's coming soon, do you think that there is any point at which you could reasonably start losing patience? I mean, they announced this with a "coming soon" in January. Do you seriously not think any impatience would be justified at this point if they still hadn't heard anything about what "coming soon" meant by the middle of March? I'm curious what you think. I have been writing software for over 20 years for a living so while I may not be a L6 Expert I am an expert on delivering software and managing users expectations. Personally, without question, more communication is better. What I was saying was that you will always have a few unreasonable people, but they are going to complain no matter what.

Thanks for letting me know about where they will announce it. I mean as a Line 6 customer who has owned a POD 2.0, X3 Live, UX 2, 2 Variax 300's, JTV-69, HD500 and a DT-25 stack, I have kinda figured it out on my own by now, but still thanks. It wasn't the information I appreciated as much as the sarcasm. Top notch! ![]()
Anyway, I will tell you one thing I can't prove, but would stand by: The fact that Line 6 came out and announced 1st quarter instead of not saying anything about what "coming soon" meant has cut down on the complaints big time. Eventually people will become impatient. You can only go so long before this happens, but you can manage their expectations and cut down on the complaints. Look at this thread, the only complaints have come from people complaining about others asking what "coming soon" meant.
For the record (since you seemed to ignore it when I mentioned it a month ago) I am perfectly happy with what I have. Looking forward to the update and grateful for the free features the added, but I love my rig, it sounds great, works grea and I am perfectly happy waiting even beyond Q1 for it to be perfect. My response was more a marketing suggestion for their sake. As it turns out this is what they did and here we are 2 months later and we have seen almost no complaining about the delivery date, though God forbid anyone come here and ask about it. ![]()

And thanks for the equally sarcastic reply . ![]()

If you're talking about me personally, as long as the product works as advertised at the time I have it then frankly I don't care when an update arrives. I have other things in my life to worry about or enjoy that getting stressed at a lack of an update is quite low on my pile. Other people? They'll have to answer individually.
Don't forget that there was an interim fix that was needed to solve the squeal issue experienced by some users. I would expect this to have had at least some delaying effect on the development of f/w v2.00 ;-)
Oh, I know. Keep in mind, I am not in any way complaining about this. If I have any complaint it is the way people react to others wondering when it is coming. Now if people were here trashing Line 6 for taking so long, (as you may realize from some of my other messages) I would be right along with those defending L6. I merely suggested marketing wise they would be better giving people some idea of what they meant by "coming soon". They did and I think it helped with the user reaction.
Anyway, regardless of how important the update may be to anyone, I don't see the harm in people wondering what they meant by coming soon.
Hi Jason
I understand completely ![]()
I don't know if you were around when a date was announced for the Gearbox editor for the X3 series a few years ago. The date slipped as can happen where software development is concerned, and it ballooned into a huge heated thread which was all a bit pointless at the end of the day but it did get quite nasty and somewhat threatening in a few cases, but really from then on I can see why Line 6 are reluctant to give firm dates. In this case, I think they wanted to announce the forthcoming updates to the 'dream rig' to coincide with NAMM - then the POD HD500 squeal issue arose, which I would think diverted attention from the v2.00 update. I think the original aim was for some time in Q1 2012 from what information is available in the public domain, but I wouldn't personally be surprised if that might slip because of delays caused by the other issue, but that said I'm 100% certain that some very hard work is underway to complete the updates, and we still have about 3 weeks until the end of March.
Remembering the Gearbox furore it always makes me smile a little when I see anything from any manufacturer in print that gives an expected release date of 'soon', but really, there is no better word to use I guess when the actual date is still a bit of an unknown entity and when as a manufacturer you want to let people know that there's some cool stuff coming down the pipeline. As a manufacturer you are often in between a rock and a hard place and depending on the the perspective of the customer, you can sometimes be damned if you do by some and equally damned if you don't by others.
Realistically all we can do is to wait, as I'm sure all of us want a complete and as far as humanly possible fully tested firmware update. We have to remember that any update to the POD HD has to also be tested with reference to the other parts of the dream rig - i.e. DT-xx and JTV/Variax G1 integration to make sure that's what's been announced so far will work seamlessly and correctly with those other devices, so it's perhaps not quite as simple a job as some might think ![]()
The bottom line is that as usual, Line 6 want us to have these updates and they want them to be good and to be enjoyed. They are coming be assured - I'm just not quite sure how long we'll have to wait at this stage, but hopefully not too long eh! ![]()
Cheers
Nick
It is to be released in the future. ![]()
