We couldn't have offered firmware upgrades until there was a means to connect the devices to a computer.  We decided that we could do it with the V75 receiver by adding a USB port and that it was better to offer upgrades to those who could gain access to an XD-V75 than to not offer it at all.

The 2nd document you quote above,   http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-2585 explains that you can use the XD-V75 receiver to upgrade your other Line 6 XD-V and Relay wireless products via its USB and antenna output ports.

If you don't have access to an XD-V75 receiver then please contact your dealer or customer support to see what arrangements can be made to provide the service.

The wireless team at Line 6 is committed to offering an upgrade path on future products, the XD-V75 is the first on this path.
