I appreciate it, but...

First of all, thank you Line 6 for the upcoming 2.0 update for POD HD. I'm looking forward to it!  But I just want to say that it's not cool to post a link saying "free update, click here" and then when you get to the page it says "coming soon." I don't mean just a day or two from the actual release, but I've been checking that link for weeks now and it still says "coming soon." That could be any time!  Like I said, I am very appreciative of the free updates, and that is just one reason why I have owned a lot of Line 6 gear starting with an AXsys amp purchased new around 1999 or so, folllowed by a Spider Valve 212, A Spider Valve MKII 112, a DL4 Delay Modeler, an original POD, a POD 2.0, a POD HD Desktop, a GuitarPort, a TonePort UX2, POD Farm 2.5 Platinum, a Space Chorus, a Dr. Distorto, an Uber Metal and probably more that I forgot. So I'm not putting Line 6 down. I just think the announcement of the POD HD update was premature. So does anyone have any idea when it will be released?

Thanks

Yea there is a very short blurb in another thread from Line6 saying "It looks like next week" (or similar to that anyway)

      Re: I appreciate it, but...

Yea I saw this as well...

Of course, that "next week" stuff can also change.

They could claim that they have changed their minds and decided not to release any further updates.

Or, they could tell us exactly what is holding up the release of this update.

They could do alot of things, or do nothing at all...

They already have our money, so for the moment their finanical balls are out of our reach...

So I think I'll just go play guitar awhile and try to forget there is an update worth waiting for.

That is the current attitude to "have" about all of this, is it not?

I might check and see if there is an update "next week"....  Or maybe not...

    Re: I appreciate it, but...

What's even more troubling is the fact that the "press release" for the update mentions some integration features with other products, but still nothing significant wrt recording features. The X3 remains the most endowed product for recording, and that's unsettling. Of course I checked my facts before getting my unit and as I only use it live I can live with it, but still it's strange that they wouldn't provide an effective X3 upgrade on some of the fronts.

      Re: I appreciate it, but...

that was my opinion as well... im pretty disapointed with how development has gone... most updates should have been included from the beginning and the rest are for other products only...

its the "sell promises now and figure them out later" business model... now the devs are scrambling to live up to to the promises the sales/marketing dept made months ago...

      such as life... lol..

        Re: I appreciate it, but...

I still don't get this sentiment.  If I recall, there has been a lot of literature outright stating that the HD series was not an update/upgrade to the previous pods.  While it still has the pod branding it obviously has a different focus, better amp simulations.  They released it in the state it was so that people who put more emphasis on quality amp sims could get their hands on it.  I don't recall reading anywhere that it would have any of the features that it doesn't.  I don't even recall reading that it eventually would.

I can certainly see how one would assume that a next generation POD would include all the features of the previous generation and I agree that it makes sense.  I'm just saying that the literature they provided about the HD series was and is accurate.

That said, I hope eventually everyone gets the features they are hoping for.  Personally, I'm grateful for the stuff they are giving us.  This unit is clearly focused on the live playing experience and the updates seem to be going that route.  I use completely different products for recording so a lot of the missing features don't affect me but I'm cognisant that others need and want them and don't want to see them denied.  I'm just saying that the current focus is in keeping with what they envisioned this product to be.

          Re: I appreciate it, but...

As I bothered to point out, I did check my facts and do not claim anything was not done as advertised. But I own pods since pod 1, 2, xt, x3 and now hd, and this is the first time they went backwards feature-wise. I can live with this, and certainly prefer quality over a myriad featuers, but tell me: how do you achieve comfortably something like reamping for HD models? We've been doing this for a decade. I think pod farm doesn't have HD models. I don't expect the HD to do something it wasn't advertised to do, I am however expecting line6 to provide a very complete offering for their top-of-the-line models, which so far they don't. It's not a complaint, just an observation: I know many people who record a lot more than they perform live, and they kept their (discontinued) X3 over getting a new HD for precisely this reason.

          Re: I appreciate it, but...

i meant they are focusing on promises made to owners of DTxx amps and JTV guitars that also bought the HD... as for things that should have been included from the start? the one and only bass and mic amp or the DEP control... these seem like things that should have been included out of the box...

with the previous gen pods, the updates i can remember were pretty decent... always new models or improvements... and i paid like 129 to get it... for the flagship model and 3x the money, i expected at least the same kind of updates when i first bought the HD500... thats all... these updates are focusing on integration with other high-end products, its a sales platform... i expected their focus to be on things that will benefit ALL users, not just ones that bought other L6 products along with it..

i get that these owners deserve these features... but it does seem like the core user of the pod is being ignored a wee bit, at least to me... just my opinion, take it for what its worth! haha

Im also happy with my HD500... but it seems they are treating it as an accessory to some other product (the dt and jtv), instead of the $500 standalone unit it should be..

My position always is you buy a product for the features it has now, not for what you want it to have in the future. There's no guarantee that features you want will ever be there, so why buy something that you're not happy with at the present? Any bugs should be fixed, and those should be a priority, but everything else is gravy.

agreed... but we all like gravy...

everytime i fired up monkey with pod farm there was an update... model packs etc... it doesnt seem like they are giving the HD the same kind of attention, thats all im saying..

Hey Springo, in all fairness to Line 6 it does just say "coming soon".  "Soon" is a relative term and can mean different things to different people and in different contexts. We all understand your sentiments though, there are a lot of us eagerly awaiting this update.  Where I disagree with you is that you don't think it's cool to share the info with us prior to release.  Despite the fact that I have to wait to get it, I still like to know what's coming and how I might implement the new features.  That said the board is probably split on those that want to know ahead of time and those that don't, not sure what percentage the split would actually be.

Exactly. And that's why sometimes they tell us and sometimes they don't. Fair play.

I would prefer an announcement like

We could probably release the firmware in March or April. Please be patient because we're doing the best we can to test it so it will be good

but hey "coming soon" is a catchy phrase...

I agree with you Springo about the fact that it is slightly deceptive to not have the "coming soon" on the HD500 front page. But hey, they are smart because they have us all salivating over this new update, especially if you are like me and have a JTV-69. I can't wait to use the Mic Preamp, no matter if it is just an effect or an actual amp model placement. Right now for recording bass I either use my Boss Dr-880 or my Zoom R24 because they both have bass presets, but I am excited to try an HD bass model. I am excited for these updates, but on the flipside, I don't necessarily mind the wait because it gives me some extra time in order to record my before and after video with regards to the JTV acoustic models.
