Using Lowdown 400 head with LD300

So I'm having an issue with the direct out on my LD 300 combo, but otherwise the amp works perfectly.  I need the direct out to feed our PA.  I could use a direct box, but then I would loose my "tone.". I was thinking of getting the Lowdown 400 head and running that into the 300.  Obviously the easiest way to do it is to use the 400 as a pre-amp.  If I do this, what is the best flat setting for the 300?

Another option is to bypass the 300 amp entirely and rune it directly to the speaker, since it is an 8 ohm speaker, this should work.  I will, however, need to do some rewiring to make this work.  Is this a good/bad idea?

I'm open to any suggestions.  I love line 6 and want to make this work.  Thanks.

Get the LowDown 300's DI output circuit diagnosed and serviced would be the best option if you like the amp. It's probably not too complicated a fix, but have an Authorized Service Center tech dig in and verify the root cause and what the solution is (probably replacing a component/part): http://line6.com/service_centers/

Otherwise, you could mic the speaker signal on the combo amp since it's outputting audio just fine...
