Four Cable Method - beyond basics. Bypassing the pre amp?

I am the happy owner of a POD HD500 and I am soon to receive a brand new Blackstar HT-5R. I want a take advantage of its effects loop so I have been trying to figure out the 4CM method.
To me it is clear what to do if I want for an specific effect to go before or after the Blackstar's preamp. However, I would like to use the POD's preamps and avoid any coloring by HT-5R's pre amp. So the question for you guys is:
Can I bypass the HT-5R pre amp in any way?
PS: For the uninitiated, there is already a great deal of excellent information in the forum regarding the Four Cable Method. An example is the following link: http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-2504
You can use the effects in the HD 500 to go in front of the pre amp models and modulations/delays/reverbs after the pre model then just run the output into the effects return (power amp in) on the amp no need to use 4 cables.

Crusty
Thanks Custy.
I have a couple of additional questions.
If I am using the FX return of the amp:
1-Which should be the Output settings?
2- How should I set the “1/4 Out” from the front panel of the POD?
My guess for 1 is Combo Power Amp and Amp for number 2 but please let me know if I am right.
Thanks
Joe
Or you could put the preamp of the Blackstar in the loop of your POD and use the FX loop block and turn off the amp simlations and have patches that are just the blackstar or patches that are just the pod...of your could mix them. Then you could place some stompboxes infront of your blackstars preamp and others after it.
I run my ENGL E530 in the loop of my hd500 and get some really great sounds mixing the tube preamp with the modeled preamps.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
