JTV 59 button is not working

Well, at least it's not working consistently. I'm talking about the button on the tuning knob that changes your switch position from switch position 1 or 5 to 2 or 4 (depending).

I remember this being an issue with some of them. Will a re-fresh of the firmware help or is this physical or what?

I got mine new in February.

It may be physical, and if so it is likely a simple fix. The most likely physical problem is that the knob is being prevented from depressing enough to activate the underlying switch. If this is the case you will probably be able to see the physical obstruction as you depress the knob. Try lifting the knob up further on the shaft to permit a more complete depression of the shaft. It may be helpful to pull the knob off completely, insert a piece of paper or some other stuffing material on the top of the shaft, and reseat the knob. This will permanently shift it upwards on the shaft.

If you don't see/feel any physical obsrtruction then, yes, a firmware reinstallation may resolve things.

Fakling either of thodse options, I woulod get it repaired under warranty at an authorized Line 6 service centre:

Hi, yeah i had the same issue on a JTV59 i bought in March.  I also tried removing the tuning knob, reflashing firmware, and generally giving it a good beating to try and get the knob working....  In the end my supplier offered either a repair or a new replacement, i opted for replacement and the new one works fine.  My faulty one was an Oct 2011 build ( based on serial no.), any chance yours was the same batch??  I would be keen to know what they end up replacing in yours... i'm guessing the tuning knob pot most likely??

Sorry to hear mate, i know how annoying it was!  Keep us updated

Re: JTV 59 button is not working

I got my black JTV 59.

After using the models for 20 minutes there was no light in the knob and only the mag pick-ups worked.. Battery fully charged and the indicator on the back all green.

    It never worked hereafter.

The guitar is really nice and is pretty close to my Gibson LP neck. Nice work Tyler!! I liked it a lot.

But the electronics Line 6  adds has a VERY low quality. I guess it was important this time to build a good instrument as opposed to the first Variax. So to keep the price down, they must have saved on the electronics.

I went back to the store and got my money back.

I strongly suggest that everyone thinking of buying a 59 should wait untill Line 6 are willing to build the electronics of better parts and save us users all the trouble and timeconsuming back and forth to the shops, the Forum, the online help, you name it. All we want is to play music.

It is a very unprofessionel level of production that no pro musician can rely on in a working situation. They have not thought of the consequenses of the brand in guitar circles.

It has been a problem since January 2011 if you search this Forum and we still buy the Variax with the same unsolved problems!!!!

I miss Line6 to come forward and taking responsibility towards their customers. The silence, apart from Hugo and Co making a "save" from day to day, does not make the company trustworthy in the years to come.

Show us, Line6, that you are better than that. Convince us!!!

OBS! I got my shop to get me one from a never batch. That is thanks to James Tylers design of the guitar itself and the shop ( 4 Sound CPH, thanks) I gave it another try.

It works perfectly after updating the firmware to 1.82

I intend to use this with my band and in my guitarteaching. The different tuning options makes it really handy to adjust quickly to students playing in alt. tunings as well as on stage.

I still however strongly believe Line6 could have come forward in a more like "2012 openess". Why not give people with timeconsuming problems a refund or an ekstra battery or... ??. Line6 has all the info, could have contacted the consumer. but like in the comedy" Little Britain" ( check it out on youtube ) saying: " Computer says nooo ".

I will be back if more sh..happens.
