Is my expression pedal broken?

Hello all.
I've been having some issues with my HD500 recently. First of all, the block inside the USB socket that holds the pins in place broke off - sent that back to L6 via the retailer to get that fixed, everything was hunky dory, then more recently I've noticed the expression pedal seems to be not working - the toe switch is fine, but the pedal itself doesn't seem to be registering as moving. I've tried most of the solutions I've seen on here - reflash firmware (which I had to do anyway as I had the 'endless reboot loop' issue - I'm beginning to think this POD is cursed!), global settings reset, calibrated the pedal (which didn't seem to work the way it should - when I got to the stage of pressing the C switch to check the sweep of the pedal, it didn't show any change regardless of where the pedal was, and when I next booted up the POD, the volume pedal values of all the presets were stuck at 0).
So, I'm beginning to think the pedal itself is non-functional rather than a firmware gremlin of some sort, but I thought I'd check with my fellow HD500 owners - have I missed anything out, or am I going to have to lug this thing back to the shop I bought it from AGAIN?
The pedal uses an optical sensor to measure its position. It could be that the sensor is just dirty, or it could be bad. Either way, I'd take it back if it's under warranty. Let them deal with it, and avoid voiding your warranty.
I will say the L6 pedal is well designed now. It used to be much more fragile and buggy. Issues like yours seem to be much less common.
