Hi Neal,
I havent heard that before, though I only have a Line 6 M9 I bought through Sweetwater (didnt have to agree to not returning in the 30-day window). I just ordered the M20d from Sweetwater over the phone last Friday. I did ask them what their "satisfaction" policy was, since I was buying this for the church I attend and none of us had had the opportunity to demo it. The Sweetwater Sales Engineer (Brian Loney) quoted me their standard 30-day satisfaction policy. If we didnt like it, box it back up with all original contents and pay only the return shipping fee, for a full refund, he said.
I'm located in Gainesville, FL, so if you'd want to drive up and try it out on-site at my church, let me know.

Thanks - I might just do that, but the environments and demands I require are much different than yours at Church.
I greatly appreciate the very kind and generous offer. I'll contact you if I think I'll be up that way.
Regarding the situation that these retailers have imposed upon me is probably due to the fact I guy tens of thousands of dollars of gear. Most of which over the past 5-6 years I've kept, but others I've sent back for reasons other than defective. And this all happened like dominoes, one right after an other. Almost as if it were one BIG company with dozens of different online store names, or perhaps these companies share databases, or other info. I could fight this with the facts of how much in dollars I've lept against how much in dollars I've sent back because it was not something I liked or didn't meet my requirements, or in some cases, the promos from the manufacturer were simply a bunch of misleading info.
I've read so many people sending back their POD HD units, DT amps, and JTV guitars that I began to wonder if it has something to do with Line 6 and their lack of good QC, or just me and all the products I have to buy to try?
Thanks again for your offer and take care,
Neal

Right on, right on. Yeah, I saw your profile pics. Line 6 should probably offer you a job!

As you undoubtedly know, all this gear is made in China nowadays and quality fade is a never-ending issue over there. It's actually intentional, as it is the Chinese way, no disrespect meant, just a cultural norm. Great book on that subject here: http://amzn.com/0470405589 Suffice it to say, Line 6 is hardly the first and certainly not the last vendor to deal with such issues. I've had the pleasure of playing the China game for the past 10 years at various employers with contract manufacturing in China. The fun never ends! But yeah, bizarre to think that you may have been somehow blacklisted at various online retailers!
Anyway, if you're going to be up in the GNV area, feel free to give me a call (PM me and I'll shoot you my number). Bring whatever gear you like. Right now, we'll just be plugging the M20d into our Bose L1 system for PA, but our budget request for next year includes new PA/monitor equipment, and we'll be carefully considering the StageSource gear. The building is virtually unused during most days and some evenings, so you could go nuts and not really bother anyone.

Hi David - thanks again for your very kind and generous offer to try the mixer. I will certainly take you up on it if I'm up that way. I'm a bit surprised that you are using any mixer in conjunction with the Bose L1 system based on what I've read pertaining to the design concept and how it physically functions.
I will indeed give that reference material you provided about China and their method of purposeful decline in production quality. That isn't at the heart of my particular question or results from the gear I own and use from L6 & other brands. The biggest problem for me with this "blacklisting" or any other term you want for the simple fact I have to agree in writing that if I buy ANYTHING at this point I am EXCLUDED from the very public statement assuring customers of satisfaction guarantee by way of the return policies each retailer has ranging anywhere from 30 days like Sweetwater up to 60 days at SameDayMusic.
Why all these stores? Why now after all these years? The only thing I can think of that is common to all are my ratio of keep vs. return, and I had put in a pre-order purchase request for the StageScape M20d Mixer with each of these retailers back about two weeks after the unveiling at NAMM. AMS was the first to tell me that if I really did want this mixer, I could NOT return it for any reason other than DOA or defective. Then within less than two weeks, all had either called or written me this very same message. I said the same to them all...
"How can anyone know if any PA gear is the best choice for them until they actually try it in their real world situations. I sure as heck can't bring my band into any retail store with all our live gear, set up, mic-up, and play a few songs at performance volume to see if the M20d mixer I'm interested in will work as I want or expect. How can anyone discover this simple answer without buying the unit, using it for less than 30 days and return it if it doesn't work as someone needs or wants for $2,500.00?"
None of the items I've ever returned took longer than 48 hours to make a decision if I liked them or felt the gear was as described, demoed, etc., and will work for me. All that extra time is great, but these retailers are claiming my purchases and returns of perfectly working products are costing them too much money between the free basic shipping they all offer, plus the lower sales price they have to give as the item is no longer officially "new". I think its a bunch of BS, because I can prove my kept purchases FAR exceed any negative cash flow any of these retailers might claim. Now my resolution is to NOT buy ANYTHING from ANY of these companies. Perhaps this will make them happy, but now they'll have to find someone else who spends the tens of thousands of dollars on gear every few years like I've been doing since I moved to Florida in 2001.
And your first remark about Line 6 offering me a job. You have no idea just how funny that remark truly is!! If ya want the scoop on L6 & myself working together on a paid basis, PM me and I'll fill ya in. I doubt you'll believe the facts, but then again perhaps you might?
Thanks again and take care,
Neal

The first three companies you mentioned are the same company I beleive. Last I knew there two companies that do this, grouped as below:
American Musical Supply
zZounds
Same Day Music
Woodwind Brasswind
Music123
Guitar Center
Musicians Friend
Musician.com
Music & Arts Center
I though Sweetwater was separate?

I think you are right about this. The only explanation is that too many things have been returned. I had a similar situation with Samash. First I bought a tele American standard deluxe. And the first gig the strap pin popped out and the fall did some damage. Fender sent Samash a new one for me and they did a return and a rering. Then I had bought a pa system on a salesperson recommendation and it was terrible. I brought it back and got another and when we went to put it into my car it wouldn't fit, so then it was returned, without ever actually leaving, and I spent more money to get an even better system. Which I kept for years. Then I bought a Taylor acoustic from them and it had faulty electronics. I retuned it for a new one. They didnt have a replacement so they shipped one from another store in the area. They said it was new sealed in a box. But when it got there it was obviously not new. It had dust and scratches all over it. Probably a store demo. So then they ordered me a new one and it took forever to come in. They said two weeks and it took almost 2 1/2 months. They even called me once to tell me it was in. I drove 40 miles to the store to find out they were mistaken. But when it finally came in the top had a massive bear claw on it. I said hell no. Just return it. The manager said it had gone past their 45 day return policy. He knew what trouble I was having and that they had my money for almost 3 months. And 2 1/2 of that I was just waiting on delivery. And I never even touched the guitar. The manager said the bear claw gave the guitar character. It was ugly. He actually charged me a restocking fee when it was returned. I had to get Paul Ash the owner of Samash on the phone and had the fee reversed. He started going over my returnes. Didn't care why the returns happened or that some never left the store or even that some were replaced by more expensive items. He also didn't care that I had a Samash credit card that had been maxed out and paid off several times over. I spent thousand there and he had the nerve to tell me he would reverse the fee if I agreed to not return anything there again. Wtf. I was forced to say yes to get my money back. Can you believe that crap?
Several years later I bought a powered speaker from a store. Got it home and it didn't work. Brought it to the store and they didn't have one in stock so they had to set it up to be delivered from the .com. I never go the speaker. Ups said delivered but it never was. I called the store to have them look into it. The said they will but give them some time. 2 weeks later I called again. I was told that they need to look into and give up them some time. I was already told this. I made 4-5 calls over about 1 1/2 months no one was doing anything. I eventually had to dispute the charge. And of course Samash lost. A few weeks later I needed to order something from them online and they said because of the issue with the speaker my account with them has been suspended.
Long stories short. Music stores do this crap even when all the returns are not your fault regardless of their own return policies. And they only look at what you returned not what you bought. I have over the last 18 years spent over $40,000 with just Samash. And they are not the place I shop with the most. Yet I can't order online from them.
