Is it possible to update firmware in an XD-V70 without a XD-V75?

According to the documentation I've seen, an XD-V75 is needed to update firmware in an XD-V70. I'm wondering if it is possible to update firmware in an XD-V70 without a XD-V75? I'm thinking perhaps an RS232 9-pin to the XD-V70's TRS connection along with a PC running Hyperterm may provide the necessary com link.
I'm thinking this might work since there had to be a way to update the XD-V70 firmware prior to the existence of the XD-V75.
That and re-writing a lot of code.
The only method available is through Monkey, which requires a USB connection.
So, it's not a simple XModem or ZModem transfer of a hex file? I'm not opposed to writing the code to do the data transfer if it comes down to that. I would just need some help with the protocol definition.
You must realize that we do not release raw code for propriatary reasons.
