Ok I now nothing about midi more than how to spell it. i have a Macbook pro and I'm spending hours programing sounds into my M13. I would be screwed if this info were lost. how do i create files for storage of all this info. I have sys-ex. it just seems too easy to perform a midi dump into the sys-ex software. how do I know Im doing this right?
Thanks
Apart from reloading the sysex file back onto the M13, there's not really a good way to test the whole thing. You could try sending one scene from the M13 to your computer and loading it back to another location to see if everything is working OK. As long as you see data being transmitted from the M13, though, you should be OK.
Another thing you could try is to arrange access to a different M13 and perform a test. If you are near a Line 6 retailer you may be able to make an arrangement where you could bring your Macbook, sys-ex file/program, and midi cables to the store (or rent one for a day and bring it home?). Use the spare/rental M13 to test reloading your sys-ex file. If things are working you should see your familiar settings in the M13. If not, you could spend some time experimenting until you get it working. When finished you could install the latest firmware from the Line 6 website on the spare/loaner to restore it.
