midi on android

I'm a developer of a piano practice oriented midi sequencer.

It currently runs only on windows, but I'd like to port it to Android.

 

SO YOU knowwww what I want...:)

 

I don't care about audio or any of that.

Just midi i/o.

 

Reading notes from a keyboard and writing notes back.

Over a midi line converted to android USB port.

 

and, thing is, I have 3 midi instruments - weighted keyboard, lite keyboard, 3 pedal unit.

 

I would LOVE to be able to listen to all 3 and write to at least 1 of em.

 

Why am I looking to rewrite my app for android?

Well, you've seen that Nexus10, right?

2560 x 1600 pixels on that baby which will make sheet music

CRYSTAL CLEAR.

 

And please don't make me learn iOS.

I'd even prefer learning Java to objective C.

And I've started down that road already for some

robotics projects.

(My phone will bluetooth to an arbotix board and ride

around on it:)

 

 

Sooooo, what are my chances of getting a cool MIDI interface

on Android from you guys?

    I went to NAMM this January past.  I spoke to some guys about MIDI and Android (I'm very, very anit-Apple).  They said the OS just isn't designed for performance.  The quickest they could get was 120 ms latency... for MIDI!  That's horrid.  You can't play, in real-time, with that kind of latency.

     

    Really, what we need to do... and by "we" I mean all of us Android users... Is to start hitting Google really hard to make their OS perform better.  Apple only has one set of hardware to deal with, Android has a bunch of different hardware sets... Even if Google focused their efforts on one set of hardware, to make that one device out perform Apple, it would be worth it.

     

    According to Google, though, they just don't care and don't see themselves working on it.  This is from a Google representative that was at NAMM.  We need to change Google's mind about this.
