Pre amp vs Full Amps

I downloaded and installed the superb 16 full amp patches. I am going through an Electrovoice ELX115. Studio Direct settings on HD500. I happened to stumble across a preset the other day in the new DT setlist that came with update. I was mystified why the pre amp patch worked and sounded more like a true amp.
For some reason as well and still extremely gratful for the effort and work this chap has put in to create and share all those patches. Why is there no noise gates included. Again I am very grateful but suprised, as all the 8 button patches which have the distorion pedal kicked in as default give the most incredible white noise.
So my question is, should I delete the 16 full amp patches and reinstall using the guys pre amp only. Mate if you read this I salute and thank you for the effort and time you must have spent doing this. I have copied some of the patches to another place and tried to erase some of your effects adding in noise gate, but mine still sound a bit crap.
Many thanks guys!
Uuh ... what patches? There are many places you might of got patches from but you do not say what or where from. Are you talking about the example patches created by the late, great Nick Mattocks ages ago as demos of the amp models?
As for no noise gates .... well some folks don't like them as they sound artificial as notes decay and their guitar and cables are quiet enough not to need them. Some people prefer a volume control on the floor or guitar volume knob to kill the noise between songs. I guess whoever created the patches did not feel the need for gates. I generally use gates for highest gain pathces but I know of other players who choose to avoid them.
The last bit where you talk about deleting full amp patches .... I am a bit confused. There are now 30 full amps and 30 pre-amps built into your HD500 (assuming firmware 2.10). All of the models are available at all times (the 'pre' versions are listed after the 'full' versions) and there is no need to delete one set to use the other. You can create separate patches using either full or pre-amp models as you so wish.
Generally, I would expect the full amp models to sound better but hey, if a Pre-amp sounds good, that is just fine too. There are no rules, only guidelines. I would suggest you just import the pre-amp patches into another user setlist and try both.
Yeah cheers mate, yeah thats the patch collection I meant its called "16 x 4 Full Amps". I'm a bit confused as to which to use when using a FRFR PA. Pre amp or full. I thought it was full amps with PA but some patches sound better with Pre amp only. I still can't work out, but thanks for the help mate.
