I'm new to this amp!!

So I picked up this HD147 amp after hearing my buddy play his, and I got it used so I just started playing around with it.
I have been using Smash (red) amp model with the Treadplate cab and I keep getting this hissing from the cab when Im not playing.
I've turned on the noise gate and it does squat, granted that I have the gain all the way up but I'm curious if anyone else has this issue.
Also why does it seem that my notes tend to cut out early like they have no sustain to them. As I said I have the drive all the way up and the presence
all the way up. I don't have the compression on but it doesn't do much to add to it. The best I can describe it, like there is not enough distortion (at least for my taste.)
Is there another gain type setting Im not aware of?
I have Spider IV as well as a POD and Floor POD so I am familiar with Line 6 products. Seems like I am missing something from this amp though
any help /input would be appreciated.
your just guna have to keep tweeking with the settings and amp models. i know what ya mean about not having enough distortion sometimes. i only use the bomber ubber amp. i'm convinced there's something wrong with mine because i can't get a good distortion with any of the other amp models. i do like the ubber tho. the big bottom is pretty cool too. it sounds awesome cranked up. you should dl line 6 edit and hook it up (if you haven't already done that). and i suggest turning on the comp whenever you play with a band or need to be loud. as it adds a **** ton of volume.last time i was able to crank mine i couldn't get it to 5 cuz it was so loud. about 4 and a half and i thought my head was guna explode. i would say forget what you know about your spider and pod cuz this just isn't guna sound the same as either of those. **** around with it cuz it takes a while to find out how the different models use the eq. the prescence does weird **** on some as do the others. hopefully yours isn't ****** up.
Well thanks for the input, I think I may just have it checked out to be sure. I was
playing on a clean channel and I kept getting a "pop" type sound on
the lower end strings almost as if it was on a crunch setting even though
it's on a clean setting. I'm not an expert but I know that shouldn't happen.
I did a factory reset and still the same thing so I've come to two possible conclusions.
Either my cab is boned or my amp is boned. I wouldn't see why my cab wouldn't
handle it when it's rated up to 400 watts. I figure ill try a different cab and see what up
if not that then off to the ridiculously over priced repair man.
adjust your noise gate to see if that helps with the noise while not playing. If you don't know how, press and hold the gate button and at the same time turn the MOD knob. Turning the know to the left (counter clockwise) weakens the gate, turning it to the right (clockwise) strengthens it.
it takes a long time to do the tweaking with this. Don't just assume "turn it to 11" will be the best results. The settings i have on mine are completely different from what i've had to do on other amps. It takes a while to get all the head options matched with the cab options, plus your physical cab to work in harmony. Think outside of the box.
i do have to say, i love this head and i think it's the best one Line 6 made. I wish they would do a reboot of it! It's easy to work and figure out (which is why i bought it) and looks killer. i also love the consistency of digital!!
I have tried adjusting the noise gate but as I originally stated it doesn't help matter in any way. I am thinking now that it is the setting I was using though. The best way I can think of describing the 'hiss" type sound is like on a tube amp, even if you have the volume off on your guitar or board you still get the sound coming from the signal. I haven't tried the "deep edit" yet as I haven't really had the need to use the amp yet but my buddy told me that could help with it, plus I took a liking to one of the factory preset, so I've just been using that channel. But I am well aware with almost every Line 6 product that it takes time to dial in a setting you like. I still fiddle with my Spider and adjust as I keep finding new things I like. It's what I love and hate a bout it. I agree though the amp is sexy looking, and beastly sounding and as soon as you show up with it people are like "whoa what is that thing." Thats my baby! lol thanks for your input man.
Stay in the mix and in the know.
