Some patches - no sound

I am a newbie and have just bought an HD500. My question is that when I download some of the patches from the sound library, I get no sound through my POD. Others are ok. Why is this?
Also, can anybody recommend a good crunch sound?
Thanks
I had the same problem when I first bought mine. It was when I downloaded patches that included a switched-on FX loop, which I wasn't using.
Thanks. How do I switch that off using the edit program?
Just click the little on/off button, the same as any normal effect block. Or just remove it if you're not using it.
In the list of effects? I can't see anything that says 'effects loop'?
The FX loop uses an effects block, the same as anything else, so if you can't see it, it's probably not there. I'm not sure what else your problem could be.
thanks. Can anybody else help?
Check your inputs. Are they what you're plugging into? I have a Variax and that stumped me for a bit.
I'm using a Variax too. What should I set them to? That did confuse me a bit
If you are using older Variax, set inputs to Variax (or Variax and Same), if you are using new JTV, set inputs to Variax (modeled sound) or Variax Mag (classic pickups). Both applies if use VDI cable to connect Variax (or JTV) with POD. If some patches still don't work, check if expression pedal isn't set to "mute" sound when in max position or vice versa...

Hi,
check the effects of these patches. If there's an Volume Pedal in the Effect routing try to deactivate it or move the Pedal on the POD Up and down.
Check the inputs selected in the POD. 9 times out of 10 when I have that issue with a patch the input was set to something other than what my guitar was plugged into.
Thanks guys, I'll try the inputs
