Recording Helix LT via SPDIF

So I'm considering moving up from my POD HD to a Helix LT.

But I'm noticing the LT doesn't have SPDIF connectivity.  I've read that the Digital out of the LT can be used as SPDIF.

So how does this work?  Are you able to go into the Helix LT the same way you go into the POD HD, and adjust the SPDIF output and sample rates, the same way as with the POD HD?

Having the same control and options over SPDIF with the Helix LT as with the POD HD is important for me.  I'd be connecting to an RME Fireface UC.

Excellent question.  I don't know the answer.  And I don't own an LT (I own a Floor).

On the floor, you can control sample rates, and I believe they added output volume control at some point (though, personally, I prefer to record out at Unity)

But.... Given you are recording..... Have you thought of helping justify the extra expense of a Helix Floor (which has S/PDIF) with the savings you'd get on a Native license?

(Plus all the other advantages)

(and perhaps buying used?  I got a used one from GC last year for $1200, it was basically new, still in box with plastic on it).

(Really, in the end, you could cover the extra cost by just skipping taking the family out to the movies once or twice.  Sometimes we value cost of gear too much when you look at it over the long term.  For me, I don't plan on making any more major gear purchases for a while as the Helix covers soooo much, and will cover even soooo much more.  Kind of bums me out I have to keep skipping those MF Stupid Deal of the Days, cause well, I don't need them anymore.)

I didn't really like the plug in, but I don't like any plugins when it comes to distortion.  A discussion for another thread.

I tried the Helix in a shop recently and was impressed by the Marshalls, which I thought really bad on the POD HD.  The Plexi on the Helix and the JTM 45 are quite good.  However, at that price range the AX8 is also a worthy contender.

The LT has all the features I need apart from SPDIF.  One is for sale used for a good price, its a month old.

If someone who is more technically minded about SPDIF than I could chime in, am I going to get the same features as POD HD when recording SPDIF with the Helix LT?  What is lost by the option of converting to SPDIF, as opposed to a dedicated SPDIF?

Line 6, if you could give me a reply I'd appreciate it.

Line 6 staff does not surf the forum very often, it is for end users. Do a search at the top of the Helix forum for SPDIF and it will bring up all posts with that text in it. You may find your info that way.
